That's unheard of to put out a statement like that.
Especially when one of those coming forward is a former employee who said the owners dismissed the concerns that they brought to HR.

Bartender suspended from Chuck’s Burger Bar after numerous sexual assault allegations
At least 9 accusations—and according to several respondents as many as 35—have been levied online. Most stories described the bartender overserving women in the Lower Yates restaurant and later attacking them at an apartment in the same building. Several alleged that others at the restaurant, which announced on Sunday that it was “working with professionals to investigate this matter,” knew and did not act.
Many accusers spoke on their personal Instagram accounts, while others were collected by an account dedicated to anonymously sharing allegations as well as local alerts and court cases for sexual offenses. The situation is similar to last summer's reckoning in the local tattoo industry when multiple people came forward with stories of abuse by 2 artists at downtown studios, and a man was subsequently arrested and charged.

Yikes. From the company statement released Chuck's may use the same individual for PR as investigating employee grievances. Seriously, given the volume of allegations it is hard to imagine that management was not aware of or should have been aware of issues with the bartender.

Victoria restaurant fires employee following allegations of sexual assault

...on Monday, the restaurant said the staff member had been let go.
“Our restaurant was surprised by these allegations, as they are completely inconsistent with our business practices and workplace culture,” the restaurant posted on Facebook.
“Chuck’s Burger is committed to the safety of all customers and staff, and we fully regret any harm that may have derived from the conduct of this particular former employee,” the company added. “Although the former employee denies the allegations, Chuck’s Burger has nonetheless terminated all relations with this person and is now engaged in a thorough investigation.”

We went in for dinner on Sunday and didn’t expect it to be so busy the entire place was full and there was only 1 cook and 2 servers Sarah who was our main server was so lovely and always had a funny comment to make us smile and forget we had been waiting for our food for almost an hour. It also helped when she gave us a free round too but we declined because it obviously wasn't her fault and we didn't want to take away from her tip. The bigger problem was the large party in the back of the restaurant who were there for the football - they were screaming at the top of their lungs the whole time we were there, not wearing masks, constantly running up to the bar to ask for drinks (that they obviously didn’t need) or following covid protocol at all frankly. I overheard the male server say something about them being the owners and this was probably why both servers looked obviously uncomfortable the whole time and the male server kept shaking his head every time the female owner would come up and ask him something. A full restaurant and the owners are in the back getting drunk with their buddies not even following the guidelines set by the government super unprofessional and we will not be returning to support your habits. Sarah however was a terrific server and was the saving grace of your company 5*s for her she was the only reason we chose to stay, she belongs in a better place than this. I hope this review will help the owners smarten up a bit."

it was the 2nd biggest football day of the year. wouldn't it be a shame if the owners had to go to some other bar with their friends?

There's an unwritten rule in the business if owners/staff are acting as customers and are they shouldn't impact the regular customers, either in their behaviour or in the excess pressure it puts on waitstaff and cooks. It's the management's duty to ensure enough staff are on shift to handle the work.

Not to take Chuck's side on this as I don't know the story, but many people don't realize that a business can't just fire someone without cause unless they are prepared to write a big cheque or they can negotiate a departure with the employee. As much as people think otherwise in today's cancel culture, an unproven allegation (or two) isn't likely going to amount to 'cause' and there are armies of labour lawyers and a sympathetic BC Labour standards branch quite happy to make that point.

notwithstanding some of the alleged events that took place away from the business, some of the alleged on-premise activities would be grounds for dismissal based on liquor law violations wouldn’t they? I think “overservice” is taken seriously. not sure.
people posting on Facebook say the business remained closed yesterday.
