In what way is the parking bad?

It is a tight lot to maneuver about in and the spots are narrow inviting door dings.

Go and have a look at all the paint scrapes on the concrete barriers. The access and egress is terrible, there are low walls that drivers find very difficult to guage especially at the entrance/exit by BlockBuster. The parking stalls were designed for honda civics and mini's not full size cars or pickups.

I rarely go there but when I do I always go into the underground parkade which is mostly empty because so few people know about it.

The engineering design for vehicles has to one of the poorest I have ever seen. It might have looked good on paper and on the computer but in application it sux!

This thread got me thinking.

Are there any "fine dining" restaurants left in Saanich?

What were the fine dining restaurants in Saanich? I must say I only know of a couple that I would consider "fine," but then it's only in the last couple of years that I've paid attention to such places.

Know it all.

Thank you. To boot, it is next to impossible to figure out where you're going to pop out of at street level, as there is little to no signage downstairs.

The only good thing about Tuscany Village is the parking. I get pretty much the perfect spot every time I go there.

There are some good places in Royal Oak.

Years ago before they installed street lamps, Cattle Point was the place to park, but you had to get there early to stake out the best spot.

Gravel parking lot at Cattle Point was the best or the quiet beach accesses in queenswood for "parking"

I was just poking around Google Maps looking for restaurants near where I'll live/work in Victoria when we move (in three weeks, yay!)

Alright, you've been here more than a month now. Let's here about the restaurants you've dined in to date, please.

Your wish is my command. Overall, I've been pretty happy with Victoria's restaurant scene. Where else should I try?

Good:

Ulla. Interesting, well-made food at decent prices.
Aura. Competent food, spectacular view. Shame about the wine list.
Paprika. Properly-made bistro fare.
Baan Thai. Not great, but consistently decent.
Sizzling Tandoor. Much better Indian than I was expecting given all the warnings I received about the awful Indian in Victoria.

Mediocre:

Little Thai Place (Royal Oak). A step down from Baan Thai.
Romeo's. I like their pizza, but don't consider ordering anything but.
Med Grill. 1988 called, they want the menu back.
Fireside Grill. Meh.
Azuma Sushi. ditto.
Fonbo. Americanized Chinese, but good for what it is.
5th Street Bar and Grill. It's cheap, and better than chains serving similar food, but that's about all its pluses.

Bad.

Glo Europub. Some of the most wretched food I've ever been served.
Osaka Sushi. Really bad sushi.

I'd like you to try:

Harbour House (inner harbour)
Pescatore's
Prime Steakhouse
Samuel's, maybe for Sunday brunch

I would try the brunch at Fireside (which is superior to that at Samuel's, I find). For sushi, nothing beats ebizo on Broughton. For pizza, Romeo's is the usual standby in this town, but I urge you to try Oregano's, in Fairfield Plaza. They have an excellent little weekday pickup special, to boot.

I would also try Stage Wine Bar and The Fernwood Inn, which are both pretty much on the corner of Fernwood Road & Gladstone Avenue. The former because it's owned by the couple who used to run Paprika (and let's be honest, Stage is pretty awesome in it's own right) and the latter because it's owned by me...at least some of it, that is.

Please standby for the shameless plug: http://www.facebook.com/thefernwoodinn :D

And for sushi you should try Shiki Sushi on Blanshard near Fort. A very hip downtown type of atmosphere as well as great Japanese food.

Saanich puts Applebee’s late night booze plans on ice

By Robert Randall • Published on Tuesday, March 1, 2011

If you were planning on hoisting an Applebee’s Bahama Mama or Colada Swirl after midnight you may be in for a long wait.

At a Monday night meeting of Saanich Council’s Committee of the Whole, Councillors sent Applebee’s away empty handed after the McKenzie Avenue restaurant requested an extension of their liquor service until 1 a.m.

The Marina in Oak Bay is still the best sushi in Victoria, hands down. David Nakayama is the **** when it comes to sushi in Victoria.

The disclaimer is that I work there, but have almost nothing to do with the sushi.

But if you are in a hurry, Fujiya on Shelbourne has good takeout.

Fujiya is great for take-out, lots of variety and fresh.
Mrs Yodsaker and I often go on a sunny day and take the food to the top of Mt. Tolmie only 5 mins away. Good food and splendid views.

The liquor store in Tuscany Village had a funny radio ad. It ended with how their excellent selection of products compensated for the terrible parking situation.

An ICBC insurance broker joked to us yesterday how our rates wouldn't go up after a minor accident, like say, hitting a post at Tuscany Village.
"Beaver, ahoy!""The bridge is like a magnet, attracting both pedestrians and over 30,000 vehicles daily who enjoy the views of Victoria's harbour. The skyline may change, but "Big Blue" as some call it, will always be there."

Are they still at Saanich Centre, Quadra and McKenzie?
