Heh, the "ultra modern" Holiday Court motel. AKA the drug shack.
The "Duncan Hines" endorsement of the Olde England Inn puzzled me. Since when does cake mix dole out hotel recommendations? So it turns out Duncan Hines was a real guy. who knew?

I appreciate the link to my banned post. That reminds me, back at X-mas Dylan was in a charitable mood, and said he may allow me back in SSP.

Check this spectacular colour image of an 1890 building in Montana taken in 1942. Compare it to similar contemporary Victoria buildings like NW corner of Douglas and Yates or Douglas and Fisgard.
Here's a fascinating shot of a Washington DC streetscape, also from 1942. A blog commenter noted that the car and store windows have been "soaped"--drawn on with a bar of soap. Today vandals do the same, except with a sharp tool that ruins the window. There appears to be chalk graffiti as well. Interesting that graffiti has always been around, it's just that modern technology has made it more destructive.
