Could a down-draft range be installed in the island? I know not everyone is happy with the efficiency of these units, but it would open up the view.

The only problem with those with a gas stove is they suck the flame toward the vent meaning if you have a big pot or pan on the burner the flame is only under part of it giving you uneven cooking.

My parents have a gas range with a down draft vent. Works fine, never had a problem with uneven cooking. They just did a kitchen reno and put a brand new one in too.

I think maybe this one: https://www.kitchena...cgd506gss.html

Some of the units have the range on the island instead of not on the island

If this picture was taken from the living area with a person cooking at the stove or washing vegetables or dishes at the sink you would not see the persons face behind the fan if they were cooking and the person would be facing the wall if they were at the sink which makes for awkward communication. (keep in mind folks this is a condo not a house) The second reason I felt this design was a flaw is there is little prep space next to sink with no cupboards up above so now you star at a cabinet door.

I don't know, islands usually end up being cluttered with junk. It's good to have something useful there.

and when it does you just turn on the stove-top and burn all the junk off.

The stove shown in the picture is an induction cooktop. Why all the talk about flames?

The exhaust hood is pretty unobtrusive, which may mean not terribly efficient. I don't see it as a big barrier. Step to one side if you want to talk to people sitting or standing on the other side of the island.

Personally, I am a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to exhaust hoods. I like that they address what's going on in my oven as well as the cooktop, and you need some big cfm's to be truly effective, which means adequate ducting to the exterior. That doesn't work with wall ovens, as is the case in the picture.

I have lived with them all in my various houses over the years: gas downdraft; double wall ovens; electric and gas convection; island; industrial hoods; etc.. My choice would be a decent gas cooktop with gas convection oven (like a Wolf stove) with a large capacity exhaust hood overtop vented properly to the exterior. I might be convinced to go with an induction cooktop and gas convection oven, but that probably means throwing out half my pots and pans, which I don't really want to do.

The have laid out paint in the parking lot which seems to correspond to the footprint of the building. My phone camera can't capture the shot in enough detail, and this shot from the spotting scope doesn't show the entire perimeter.

This really erodes the sentiment the market is collapsing and purchasers will find themselves under water, doesn’t it?

Who knows how long it will be there? The US parent company is on “bankruptcy watch” as a filing may come this year...

With the new bridge, the development of the Janion and the coming continuation of the David Foster Harbour Pathway, the value of the shoreline will continue to increase and expand ...

oh ya.

Evergreen AcqCo 1 LP operates the thrift-store chains Value Village and Savers, which purchases donated clothing, accessories, and household goods and resells them at more than 300 locations in the US, Canada, and Australia. The company says it prevents more than 700 million pounds of used goods from going to landfills annually and employs 22,000 people.

Believe it or not, the assessed value went down from the previous assessment. The land is currently valued at $6m, previously $6.3m.

Another photo of the paint line showing the Pearl building outline from the Janion rooftop.  Also, the space between the Janion and the Pearl will NOT be a public thoroughfare.  It will be limited common property attached to the units on the ground floor.
