One review on Trip Advisor (5 out of 5). Menu looks great, though pricey.

Yeah. I used to go to Catalano semi-regularly, but after a look at the menu, Courtney Room will join the list of places only appropriate for birthdays and anniversaries.

Any place that marks up Hoyne Dark Matter 150% from BCL retail prices is not getting my visit.

Is this the only place serving caviar?

They must be confused: It's listed as "Horne" Dark Matter

I get a kick out of their web page. The bartender doesn't look that busy.

I'm not surprised by the prices after looking at staying at the Magnolia a few years ago. It might be the most expensive hotel downtown based on average room cost.

Very interesting--they appear to be going more traditional than the usual high-end hipster places like Agrius and OLO. Perhaps they are trying to target a niche that disappeared with places like Camille's in Bastion square or Restaurant Matisse on Yates. A little hipper than Brasserie L'Ecole maybe.

Hey there,

Thank you for checking out our website and menus.

We hope we will see you for a visit.

From the comments above I did want to provide some more information about The Courtney Room and who we are.

The room is designed in to 2 distinct spaces, The Brasserie and the Upstairs Dining Room.

The Brasserie is designed to be approachable, lively, while offering something for everyone.

This could be a quick happy hour snack and drink special (including $5 drafts and wine from $7), an amazing in house ground burger, or oysters shucked right at the bar paired with one of our local drafts.

The Upstairs Dining Room is designed to be more upscale, and one of Victoria's classic dining experiences. It is the perfect spot to celebrate something special and we hope will build a reputation to dining in Victoria like The Magnolia has earned as a boutique hotel. Classic, timeless, with exceptional service.

We hope to see you soon at The Courtney Room. If anyone would like a personal tour of the space please don't hesitate to email me at GM@Magnoliahotel.com or call me at 250-412-8480.

Thanks again for checking out our website.

Bill Lewis,

General Manager

The Magnolia Hotel & Spa

Oh hey, that's pretty cool. I didn't realize it was split into two spaces in that way.

Thanks Mike,

Yes, the old space had 3 levels, which unfortunately made the layout very inefficient.

When we were designing a new space we spent a lot of time with our designers to eliminate the middle level (where there were booths) and create 2 distinct spaces within one room.

Let me know if you'd like to come by for a tour sometime,

All the best

Bill

The prices are not that crazy. From reading the posts I was expecting high 50 main courses.

Visit my blog at: https://www.sidewalkingvictoria.com

It has a whole new look!

I don't think the food prices are that bad either. I just think about Gotham Steakhouse (http://www.gothamsteakhouse.com/menus) in Vancouver to compare :P.

The bar prices are... steep though.
