Caduceus has a complicated meaning and history. This explains why it's found on medical buildings as well as a variant that can also be found here today on old bank buildings like this former Bank of Commerce branch.

Is the object not actually a "Rod of Asclepius"? With some minor modifications it would make a cool free-standing sculpture at the new development.

Some in the medical profession are adopting Caduceus over the Rod of Asciepius just because. Hey, it's got an extra snake and wings, who doesn't like that?

It is nice to learn something new with my morning coffee. Now if only I could pronounce either of those names I could pass on the info at witty cocktail parties (which we are no longer allowed to have.

Healing symbol from Fort Royal Medical Building won't be reused: developer
https://www.timescol...oper-1.24280001
But site developer Donald Milliken, of Milliken Real Estate Corp. in Vancouver, said the piece is made of “flimsy” thin metal, possibility some kind of tin, that made it difficult to remove and retain.
______________
“We couldn’t think of what could be done with it from a practical point of view, so it became part of the demolition of the building, which is ongoing.”
______________
As for offering it to the public, he said: “It’s flimsy. It’s huge. Who is going to be able to do anything with it? We came up blank.”
"flimsy material" that lasted fine for 60 years. i think donald perhaps lacks imagination and big thinking capability.
