Dunno, I wasn't a huge Helps fan myself initially but 'damn' be careful what you wish for: if it is true that incumbent/name recognition more often than not wins the day then God help us Ben "Never met an anti-capitalist Marxist Revolutionary I didn't like" Isitt just might decide to toss his name into the mayoralty ring.....

If you think the "Victoria Mayoral Reign of Inaction Terror" list just couldn't get any worse than those completely useless, vacuous past mayors - David ("Mayor Moonbeam") Turner or Gretchen Brewin - one can only imagine what an utter wet noodle with respect to new development Isitt would be based on past comments and his voting record.

In terms of approving nothing he'd give that awful Brewin - Turner NDP tandem (their terms ran consecutively from 1986-93) a run for their money - and I thought that just would never ever be possible even in pokey little "Mayberry RFD, West". Talk about a Bizarro Town living in a development vacuum during those years. Pretty sure an Isitt-led City of Victoria would closely mirror that time. The horror, the horror....

Agreed ASE. Sometimes it's better the devil you know or in this case the devil you know would be worse.

There is always a worse option. That doesn't mean you shouldn't try to improve.

In a Helps v. Isitt showdown I can guarantee you the incumbent mayor would get my vote.

I'm almost a little old lady in Fairfield and I can't stand Helps. Neither can my husband, daughter, neighbours up the street, nor a couple of my coworkers (All voters in the city.)

Almost no one I know voted for Harper but he led his party to three electoral wins. The "none of my friends voted for politician X" indicator is a terrible predictor of elections.  I am sure you can find lots of Americans that don't know a single Trump supporter.

I like some stuff Helps has done, but am disappointed in some respects too. If I vote against her it would only be if a candidate I think is clearly superior ran. Changes the Clown is not cutting it for me so far.

She is hated by the business community, but by the little old lady living in Fairfield I don't know.

When she tried to put a sewage treatment plant right at Clover Point she made plenty of "Little Old Fairfield Ladies" very upset.  They haven't forgotten.

It's too bad no one has stepped up to the plate but on the other hand it's a horrible job. It's really amazing anyone does it. No prestige, no money pretty much and a whole lot of headaches. Just glad I don't pay taxes in Victoria!
