Sooke Road has been closed since just before 3PM due to downed wires. A tree fell and knocked down the wires in the 5200-block, where there is no detour.

Was actually closed almost 4 hours - I know because I was stuck in it... again.  Heard Premiere was stuck in it as well.... perhaps it will give him a moment to reflect on the need for an alternate route vs. doubling the lanes.

^ Maybe just trimming the trees back as far as the tallest one?

He was? That’s crazy. I guess there was that announcement regarding an expanded health clinic in Sooke that was made just before the tree came tumbling down.

The Ministry is currently developing a public consultation schedule for the $86 million Highway 14 improvement project announced in April.

My understanding is that there have been subtle changes to the design identified in April.

A contentious controlled intersection that was part of the original highway 14 four-laning at a future park-and-ride near 17 Mile has been nixed in favour of an underpass. The highway will now flow freely along the new section. I believe the speed will remain at 60km/h.

Here are the visuals for the new Highway 14 upgrades.

An 11km stretch of Highway 14 between Otter Point and Woodhaven roads will be improved with shoulders. This will also include two pull-outs for slower traffic.

Here we have the underpass for the park-and-wide and the connection to East Sooke via Gillespie Road. This will replace a controlled intersection that was initially planned at Highway 14 and the new Gillespie Road extension. The old (right) and new (left) designs are below.

It's a Petro Can at Otter Point Road in Sooke's town centre (not the Otter Point Road end where the shoulder work will begin). There is also a gas station in Renfrew now just as you enter the town.

There is a detour, it is the Pacific Marine Circle Route via the Malahat

That's not a local detour.

The highway is now open to alternating traffic.

MoTI has a tender out now for work near Port Renfrew.

The location might be here.

Location: Highway 14, 3.5 kilometres east of Port Renfrew.

Description: Highway 14, east of Port Renfrew, has been reduced to a single lane since November 2018 due to a slope failure. The project will construct a 220 metre long retaining wall, followed by deep road base repairs along a 500 metre section of Highway 14.
