I am OK with politically crafted outrage if it saves the RBCM from demolition.

"Okay, okay, we listened to the people. So instead of tearing everything down we'll spend the same amount on a renovation and on some new construction around back like we originally proposed to do almost 20 years ago."

I could see it happening, but why does absolutely everything have to be so manipulative and insincere?

Manipulated outrage makes people cynical. Cynicism disengages people from the political process. Fewer people engaged leads to fewer voters at the polls. Fewer voters makes it easier to win elections.

If nobody votes would we still call them elections?
