So who was it that dictated that kneeling during the national anthem is disrespectful?

Kneeling has long been seen as disrespectful.  Kneel before the Queen and she swings a sword at your neck.  Kneel before the girl you've been courting and she starts to cry.  The amount of disrespect shown in many houses of worship is mind-boggling.

Yeah well trying urinating in those situations and see where that gets you.

Not sure how urination came into this, but my understanding is that there is rumour out there that one of the main opponents of NFL players kneeling is actually of fan of watching people urinate.

The washrooms are full of people urinating during the national anthem at every sporting event. And there is a line of people buying beer. And people are standing around the corridors talking. But one uppity black guy kneels and all hell breaks loose.

And why are they kneeling? They are telling cops, "please, if you don't mind, we'd rather you not shoot black guys in the back 12 times as they're running away".

Anyway, I'm sure Colin is thrilled to have the President of Iran as a big supporter. As thrilled as Mary J. Blige was when she found out who adored her album.

Exactly! Pretty sure I've been peeing while holding a beer and singing Oh Canada at a Canucks playoff game before.

Anyway, LBJ has come out in support of CK and Nike.

The Seahawks are going to be pretty bad this year, BTW.

He is still haunting the White House, apparently.

If you're not a millennial you're an old timer.

Much like my old timer QB Drew Brees who will become the NFL's all time leading passer in about week 5.

Thanks captain obvious for pointing out these players are kneeling during the national anthem on purpose. Very well done.

Look, they have successfully grabbed attention and many have spoken eloquently about their concerns. Some have chosen to not listen because our society today is all about taking sides and fighting about everything instead of listening.

[My personal opinion is that the national anthems shouldn't be played prior to professional club league games.]

Pretty much this: national anthems originally were intended (only) to be played at formal state or patriotic occasions.

They have no business IMO being played at professional sporting events other than perhaps at the Olympics, not a professional setting obviously, where truly national teams from all over the globe compete against one another. Under those circumstances you can make an excellent argument for playing national anthems.

Otherwise, do we actually believe the Swedish guy playing left defence for the Canucks really cares whenever Oh Canada is played at a Canucks home game, ditto for the Canadian playing centre for the New York Rangers. I'm sure he gets all weepy and emotional whenever the Star Spangled Banner is trotted out in Madison Square Garden. Or not....<yawn>.

At the major professional sports level virtually all of the North American Big Four have players from practically all over the world. If you insist on playing national anthems (US or Canada) how can you not play the anthems for all the players from all four corners of the globe participating in the game in that case - they're the one's putting out the effort, providing the entertainment and above all generating a s*** ton of revenue for a whole bunch of people...

In spite of what the marketing mob would have you believe "no" the Super Bowl is not the most important event in the history of the human race requiring a glorification of America including multi million dollar over the top renditions of God Bless America or the Star Spangled Banner by celebrity superstar musician "X": hell its not even remotely close to being the biggest spectacle in sport - measured by TV viewership - as that honor by a huge margin is the FIFA World Cup along with the Tour de France, the Olympics, the Asian Games, Rugby World Cup, the UEFA Champions League and several other events such as the Cricket World Cup. Last I checked the "Super" Bowl isn't even in the Top 10.

By all means however throw the biggest tailgate party ever if you like, and have a great time to boot, but lets not get all misty-eyed thinking that God's Eternal Light shines forth upon a special land called the US of A: the Big Four NA sports are all about professional entertainment for the masses, and $$$$$$$$, pure and simple - they have absolutely nothing to with "honoring Murrica".....

good news.   police brutality towards blacks must be over.

In a league where more than 200 players once took some sort of action to protest police brutality and social injustice in America during the anthem, The Associated Press counted fewer than 10 across the league who did so on the NFL’s opening Sunday. Only two of them — Albert Wilson and Kenny Stills of the Dolphins — kneeled while the “Star-Spangled Banner” played.

You know you are getting old when.....I watched the Seahawks-Bears game tonight. In the post game show I'm thinking who the hell is that old guy providing post game analysis?! It then hits me that its ex-Seahawk great Steve Raible who went into broadcasting after a decent NFL career and was the KIRO sports guy for years and years. He looks like he's about 90.....

...at which point I had the unmistakable and inescapable feeling that I'm turning into this guy -
