Fencing is up around the entire site now so I imagine that construction could be underway soon...

No permits issued yet, aside from the 2017 tenant improvements. Vic Map doesn't list any "In Progress" applications either, so no clues on how quickly they'll start site prep work.

Who is the General Contractor?

Nothing has begun yet, they just installed fencing around the property to likely protect the building as they perform renos. No contractor has been named.

And to make it slightly more difficult for graffiti "artists" to tag the chapel.

Yes, that's been an issue, for sure.

Demolition permit (just the non-heritage stuff) and Building permit applications are both in progress with the City

Anyone know how many levels of underground parking they will need to dig for? With this project now underway, that makes 7 projects under construction on Johnson between Blanshard and Chambers if you include 989 Johnson which is not totally finished (although today they seem to be finally putting some of the last pieces of glass/spandrel!)

Give a man a fish...

3 levels. ~13.5m or 44ft below grade.

Teach him how to fish...

A crew was back on site here today, so I anticipate that they will start excavation this week...

I walked by yesterday and there were lots of new machinery and it looked like excavation had begun.

Although I must say it is very loud and I moved downtown specifically for the peace and quiet.

Sounds like someone needs to join the DRA and get things steered in the right direction.

Wrong site. The crane is going up at the firehall site half a block up Johnson from here.

Still working away on H-pile driving here. Haven’t begun excavation yet.

My bad...just seeing this from a distance and assumed it was 1400 Van. Thought it seemed kind of fast.

You might even say "piles" of activity. (groan)
