Stephen Andrew would be a very welcome addition to the current CoV council. I'd love to see him go head-to-head with Comrade Ben in council meetings.

Why would there be a byelection?

Councillor Collins won the federal NDP nomination for Victoria. It'll be a fierce battle between the NDP and Greens, though.

I'm not sure how I feel about the ability to run for another office before resigning your existing post. I know it's important for career politicians but I'm not sure it's the kind of behaviour we want to encourage. The reward should have some risk involved, shouldn't it?

Labour was accused of pursuing the policies of Venezuela last night as it unveiled plans for a tax raid on middle-class homeowners and powers to force landlords to sell on the cheap.

You don’t think influence from Big Labour wouldn’t shift towards the Greens if they began to wield more than a token position in federal and/or provincial politics?

I think it would more likely move to the federal Liberals.

Just have to look at the way Jerry Dias cuddles up to Justin to know that already happened. 

I think her winning is extremely unlikely.

How so? This riding has been strongly NDP for years. She has some name recognition and an effective party apparatus behind her. 

I think the Greens picked the right candidate here; it will be a tough choice for progressive voters to back the qualifications of the Green candidate or party loyalty towards the NDP.

And she has been completely unimpressive on council. She often bumbles during meetings and has a difficult time expressing her thoughts.

I doubt that most people who voted for Ms Collins last October and the ones who will support her again this fall really have much concern about her ability to deal with the workings of the council chamber or parliament. She speaks their language and just "feels" right to them.

So she's perfect for the Federal NDP. She can fumble and bumble and nobody will notice and/or care.
