Stephen Andrew would be a very welcome addition to the current CoV council. I'd love to see him go head-to-head with Comrade Ben in council meetings.

Why would there be a byelection?

Why would there be a byelection?

Councillor Collins won the federal NDP nomination for Victoria. It'll be a fierce battle between the NDP and Greens, though.

I think her winning is extremely unlikely.

I'm not sure how I feel about the ability to run for another office before resigning your existing post. I know it's important for career politicians but I'm not sure it's the kind of behaviour we want to encourage. The reward should have some risk involved, shouldn't it?

it could be worse...it could be one of Bens heros

https://www.dailymai...land-cheap.html

Labour was accused of pursuing the policies of Venezuela last night as it unveiled plans for a tax raid on middle-class homeowners and powers to force landlords to sell on the cheap.

A report, called Land for the Many, said council tax should be replaced with a new 'progressive' levy targeting larger homes with gardens.

If you truly want a glimpse into what Canada would look like under a Green or Ndp Federal government look no further than the crazy nutjob Corbyn...

Not even close on the Greens. They are not a labour party.

You don’t think influence from Big Labour wouldn’t shift towards the Greens if they began to wield more than a token position in federal and/or provincial politics?

In any case, if Counc Collins is able to parlay her year as a councillor into an MP gig, I hope we get a viable byelection candidate who is neither an Apprentice of the current mayor nor a member of the Together BenToria slate.

Have you glimpsed at the Green Manifesto that May put out last week? And the UK Labour party much like the NDP are not the party of the working man anymore

If you mean the 20 point plan that doesn't have one labour point in it then yes I have read the points. Some would be considered hostile to labour.

I think it would more likely move to the federal Liberals.

If it moved exclusively to the federal Liberals, the exodus of moderates towards the Conservatives would be historic. Lots of Liberal supporters are on the fence regarding Big Labour’s partisanship, and that’s beginning to be voiced with Unifor getting a gavel at Trudeau’s $600M media sympathy fund decision table.

Just have to look at the way Jerry Dias cuddles up to Justin to know that already happened.

How so? This riding has been strongly NDP for years. She has some name recognition and an effective party apparatus behind her.

I think the Greens picked the right candidate here; it will be a tough choice for progressive voters to back the qualifications of the Green candidate or party loyalty towards the NDP.

And she has been completely unimpressive on council. She often bumbles during meetings and has a difficult time expressing her thoughts.

I doubt that most people who voted for Ms Collins last October and the ones who will support her again this fall really have much concern about her ability to deal with the workings of the council chamber or parliament. She speaks their language and just "feels" right to them.

She often bumbles during meetings and has a difficult time expressing her thoughts.

So she's perfect for the Federal NDP. She can fumble and bumble and nobody will notice and/or care.
