The dark recessed panels on the podium are as depressing AF, but after how well the tallest Hudson tower turned out, I will withhold judgement. I can say the brick they are using (you can barely see it on the far left side in the first picture) is gorgeous, so it could help pull it all together. It has a very warm and natural aged look to it (versus the large uniform brick of it’s neighbour) and is nothing like the harsh red brick of the renderings. It almost looks as if it could be pre-constructed brick sheets or a brick veneer due to how thin it appears. Still as long as it looks good, don’t really care how thick that brick is or how it’s applied. Pictures I took yesterday morning:

Those windows look terrible due to the size mismatches.

A few more floors and I'll be able to see the rising building from James Bay.

The balconies are going to be quite neat. I like how deep they are.
They look like caves to me.

There goes my view of the San Juan Hills
It's worse for me, I am losing my view of HP-1 to the aesthetically inferior HP-2!

Life just seems to get better every year. Where would we be without all the great improvements. Smaller windows are always better.

Fingers crossed it doesn't end up being a towering bunch of blah. 1400 Quadra's esthetic would have been a great fit for this site. I've said it before: there seems to be political pressure to diminish the attractiveness of the tallest and most prominent new highrise buildings. And I'd bet a donut it's all so the critics can say: "See? We told you tall buildings were ugly."
Methinks it's a self-fulfilling situation, in response to the flock of appealing new highrise buildings that came along in the 2000s. The musty old canned criticisms were no longer panning out. The new highrise buildings were nothing like the old highrise buildings we had been trained to fear & dread. A sharp building like Promontory even managed to sway and convert some stubborn minds. So circumstances were re-shaped to sustain the old negative narratives. Politics truly is insanity.

I'm afraid the good ship Blah-Blah-Blah has already sailed.
