No building is more of a cheese grater than the Marriott Chateau Champlain in Montreal...

At least it's not a wide cheese grater.

The developer said it chose to build with wood because it's lighter and there were soil issues on the property "linked to the weight of the building."

Well... that doesn't sound reassuring.

Proposal to build world’s tallest wood tower in Vancouver

A B.C. architect and developer are teaming up to propose a 35-to-40-storey tower in Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighbourhood. Aaron McArthur has the details

Its a pretty cool building! There are a lot of these hybrid structures being proposed, there are 3-4 in Vancouver already. We are trying to do something special by doing all mass timber except for the cores.

Now building huge structures out of timber is going green. Just a few years ago eco-wacko's were protesting logging.

Sorta like global warming morphs to climate change morphs to pollution.

This is going to CoTW on Thursday April 8; staff recommend moving it forward to a public hearing.

What's the zoning? What variances are they looking for? I've probably forgotten. I only check the progress on this site once a decade.

This is a Development permit with variance only.  No rezoning is required so its not a Public Hearing just an opportunity for public comment.

- Building Height: 37m to 45.5m

- Parking: 262 to 166

- Building entrance canopy setbacks

Word is this passed unanimously. Pretty excited to see this go up. Would be great to see more density around Mayfair.

If for no other reason than it would take some of the pressure off North Park and Fernwood with their Manila-like density.  -_-

Thanks for confirming! There's a BP in for "Tresah Presentation Centre" inside Mayfair, which some of us assumed would be the name of this project.
