Sparky, what’s your thought on the exit from the facility?

Yikes. Yeah, hearing that from you I think this is a case closed situation. That exit needs a major re-work.

Finally took the plunge courtesy of Mrs ASE and our daughter who took me for brunch first then on to the Skywalk - t'was definitely worth it from my standpoint. I'm not sure what I was expecting but we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience from the extended and elevated walkway through the forest, all 700+ meters of it, to the cool and refreshing breeze along the way as it took you at times perhaps as much as 20+ meters above the forest floor, to the structure itself which is fantastic, and of course the view(s) from the various levels and especially the top are top notch.

From parking lot to the skywalk is perhaps 15 minutes depending how quickly you walk; we were in no hurry, took lots of pics, stopped to read the various 'points of interest' plaques along the elevated path, take in the extended views of the forest and then walked leisurely up the (ten?) levels of the skywalk itself.

The view from the top affords a 180 degree view from the Olympics in the south to the Salt Spring Island and beyond to the north. There is a well designed kiddie playground area for the tots as well as an outdoor patio/eatery at the base of the skywalk and on the Saanich Inlet side a series of those comfy old style Appalachian-style wooden deck chairs where you can just chill and enjoy the sun as well as the view.

Whatever issues they might have had re: sewage and odour emanating from the physical plant or septic field appear to be resolved as none was in evidence today, and it was warm up there. But about that exit...yeah you need to be alert to oncoming north bound traffic, time it carefully and be prepared to stomp on the gas once you do commit. The other point, a minor one but just FYI, since you must turn right upon exiting it means going a further 4-5 clicks along the highway until you can turn off and turn around at Bamberton or Mill Bay, if your actual destination is Victoria. All in all it actually exceeded my expectations and we'll probably go back in the fall...

I seriously debated but am still suffering effects of a lower leg infection/arterial condition so opted to walk down as walking is one of the activities the specialists proscribe to mitigate it. Looks like a blast though; pretty much a continuous lineup the entire time we were there.

BTW someone posted on FB the supposed elapsed time to reach the bottom - apparently its about 12 seconds :)

/\ .....I'm not a fan of the expression but I'll use it anyway: it is what it is. Its likely to be a permanent condition that can be somewhat controlled by diet, weight loss and daily exercise in the form of walking. I also have to to wear two layers of compression socks which are supposed to aid in forcing the blood that pools in the lower arterial system back up to the heart. They are a PITA and as you can imagine aren't comfortable. Beyond that there is little that can be done.

The docs as usual fall back primarily on prescribing an army of painkillers and other meds which is not thrilling for me. To date those beauties have included tramadol, dilaudid, pregabalin among several others, all of them either opioids or NSAIDS (non steroidal anti inflammatories). The non-opioid drugs are basically nerve blockers. None of them are particularly fun nor especially effective other than getting me high enough, in the case of the opioids, theoretically to allow me to sleep. The problem is staying asleep. I get on average 4 hours a night, only slightly more if I'm very very lucky.

I also rub a powerful steroid creme on the affected area but have to take care not to use too much as there are side effects if I do. Lastly I take a diuretic pill daily which is supposed to aid in my body getting rid of excess water which contributes to the inflammation and irritation of the affected area.

I can't honestly report any of them do much although the dilaudid was fun for a few weeks until I started building up a resistance to it. Its also a highly addictive and powerful opioid drug so I take it only when I have no option due to irritation or pain. The best solution honestly are gummy edibles with 20mg of THC. Three of those babies and I can actually sleep for up to 5 or sometimes more hours. Of course they send me flying into the nether regions and turn my cognitive functions into mush so I can't take them if I need to drive or perform other activities requiring my brain to be engaged, for my own safety as well as for the safety of others, lol....

Geez Louise, I’m sorry to hear that.

Have you reached out the non-traditional medical pros, or herbalists, etc?

Not as yet I was hoping a surgical solution called vein-scraping might work but I've been advised the chances of that are little to none, in addition to the backlogged medical system which means it would be 18-24 months away, minimum. I am finally starting to research more traditional healing strategies and methodologies as I really dislike the pharma/drug route. If anyone knows of a reputable herbalist I'm all ears....

You may also want to consider having the procedure done elsewhere, like in Mexico. World class healthcare is available any time you need it, just not in our country. And it won’t be nearly as expensive as you might think.

Unfortunately the real issue isn't the timeline, I can live with that. The question is whether the procedure will actually work. Arteries/veins in the lower leg naturally are very small compared to virtually all other parts of the anatomy to the 'north' so at best its problematic whether it will even work according to both my specialist, who is recognised locally as the go-to guy in this area for this affliction, and to my GP.

Same thing I'm hearing about the bone spur on my right heel. There is a operative procedure to remove it but medical opinion at best is divided as to whether it will fix the issue or make it worse. General opinion is that if an operation doesn't have a high likelihood of success the better course of action is usually to leave the affected condition alone, and take non invasive actions to mitigate and deal with it.

Anyway...how about that skywalk?!? :)

/\ - Agree 100%. It would be pretty difficult otherwise one would think; we were there last weekend and its hard to see how someone could fall off this thing unless they really weren't paying attention while probably doing something they shouldn't have been. The clear (plexi?)glass composite barrier on the very top level is admittedly a bit flimsy looking and feeling - I would be very leery about getting down into a 3-point football stance and launching my 280 pounds at it - but otherwise there are handrails everywhere and the footing is very solid, sturdy and secure.

Possibly. From what I have heard it wasn't an "attempt". The emergency vehicles didn't race to the nearest hospital.
