A developer struck a conditional deal to purchase Sidney’s Cedarwood Inn and Suites with an eye towards building a four-storey mixed residential-commercial development on the site. The Lochside Drive location would include up to 265 rental units ranging from studios to four-bedroom townhouses.

The ocean-facing business is a familiar, even iconic site in the region, with countless motorists, cyclists and pedestrians passing it.

Jordan Milne, president and chief executive officer of GMC Projects, said the deal hinges on council rezoning the property from its current neighbourhood motel with a maximum height of nine metres (two storeys). “The property needs to be entitled for more than a motel and a restaurant given its size in order for it to proceed,” he said, adding about one-third of the 3.25-acre property remains unused.

This proposal is the latest in a series of attempted re-developments.

Plans by Total Concept Developments, a Kamloops-based company, to build three six-storey buildings (one hotel, two residential buildings) along Lochside Drive saw the public light about two years ago but did not get off the ground.

Note that Sidney just approved and issued permits for a 4-storey apartment building just a few doors down at 9570 & 9574 Fifth Street (Lochside becomes Fifth at Weiler...)

Given the spread of threads infected with COVID-19 I think for the time being VV should be renamed PV - Pandemic Victoria or VP - Vibrant Pandemic

covid-19 is already affecting this development.

I'd be curious to see some preliminary renderings or at least some massing studies for the proposed redevelopment of this site.

Plans for the proposed redevelopment of an iconic motel on the Saanich Peninsula are becoming more concrete, with developers speaking of creating a seaside village in Sidney’s south.

GMC Projects and Chard Development are holding two open houses, one in-person scheduled for Nov. 2, the other virtually, scheduled for Nov. 9, to inform the public about their “preliminary vision” for the redevelopment of Cedarwood Inn and Suites located on Lochside Drive and almost directly opposite from Tulista Park.

The low-sloped motel with its prominent sign evoking the hay days of the neon age has served as a quasi-portal to Sidney and long drawn the interest of various developers.

i do not now what either a "low-sloped motel" or a "hay day" is.

A slice of Sidney waterfront is being reimagined, with a development proposal for 49 apartment and 48 townhouse units on the site of what’s currently the Cedarwood Inn and Suites.

GMC Projects is proposing a three-storey building with 49 apartment units and a ground-floor commercial space as well as eight buildings containing a total of 48 2.5-storey townhouses at 9522 Lochside Dr., near Tulista Park.

The apartment would have 18 one-bedroom units, 17 two-bedroom units and 14 three-bedroom units. Forty of the townhouses would have three bedrooms and eight would have two.

A redevelopment on the site of Sidney’s Cedarwood Inn and Suites is one step closer to becoming a reality.

Sidney council has given three readings to a bylaw amendment for the proposed waterfront development that envisions 49 apartments and 48 townhouse units on the motel site.

GMC Projects has proposed a three-storey building with 49 apartment units and a ground-floor commercial space as well as eight buildings containing a total of 48 2.5-storey townhouses at 9522 Lochside Dr., near Tulista Park.

Funny how the only time, ever, I write a project is three readings in, so does the TC. Have we ever heard them say “three readings?”
