Figured I'd start this even though its now the semi-finals; Canada came out like a bunch of gorillas in the first period and stomped Russia 3-0; one minute into the second period and now its 4-0 with the first string Russian goalie now sitting on the bench. We'll see what if anything the Russian kids have in the next 35 minutes. If the stars align looks like a good chance it'll be Canada-US in the final assuming we win and the Excitable States beats Finland.

That was a good game though. Not the result Canada was looking for but I bet in a series of 5 or 7, Canada wins easily.

Unfortunately I disagree; Canadians IMO need to get used to and accept the fact the American hockey "wave" is here and won't recede any time soon.

They've been more or less routinely been beating us for several years not only at the World Juniors - I think this was the fourth consecutive loss to the US in the WJ gold medal game - and with 10x the population and $ resources I can't see the process reversing.

Add to the fact more Americans from non-traditional US markets are taking up the game and purely from a demographics standpoint we will eventually be inundated. Just the way it goes. I watched some of the games in recent years at the Mac's Midget tournament in Calgary, the largest one of its kind in the world, and the scores are shocking in many of them with teams from places like Ohio and North Carolina frequently thrashing their Canadian counterparts from "traditional" hockey hotbeds like Manitoba and Ontario - who would have ever thought a team from the Carolina's could do that? But it happens and its happening more frequently.

TSN and other media can blather on about how we came back last night, put on pressure after the mid point of the game yadda yadda yadda, but the fact of the matter is for anyone closing watching it for very long stretches Canada was by far the second best team on the ice, our top line at one point being utterly dominated for nearly 1 minute in their own zone completely unable to break up the US pressure, the result being the first American goal.

And we are being beaten at the basics - in the Mac's tournament the clear gap between many US and Canadian midget teams in fundamentals like skating, passing, general hockey IQ, is shocking in many cases and we saw some of that last night where we literally were being skated out of the arena for long stretches until the third period.

In general you might be right, but for those two specific teams I still think Canada > US for a longer series. One game does not tell us who is actually better.

Last nine year Canada has 3 gold, USA has 3, and good old Finland has 3... :)

And good for Finland! Nice to see a small country like that do well. And they certainly played the Americans far better than we did - that semi final game was awesome it was too bad to see them lose so late but overall they played a strong game and then went out and beat the Russians for third place. Considering their small population that was impressive hockey.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says it's time to think about starting a new organization to replace Hockey Canada — which is still playing defence after paying out nearly $9 million to 21 sexual misconduct complainants since 1989, and after major sponsors pulled their support for the embattled organization.

If a player is found guilty of sexual misconduct - ban him from the NHL, period. Problem would solve itself very quickly.

Should the current NHL PLAYERS responsible for the actual sexual misconduct that resulted in the Hockey Canada multi-million dollar settlements come forward - and admit their roles in the payout behaviour?

Or should they be protected?

I think that given the amount of time since the issue was brought to light and the lack of ANY movement on the criminal front, I think that the new investigators have come to the same conclusion as each of the old groups of investigators.

Not a single one of the women involved wants to come forward, either?

Where is the usual "I'm speaking out so this never happens to another woman" thing?

^ Any bets the new board does a 'Langham Court' and renders the organization useless for the foreseeable future?

It's already likely in a position where it needs to borrow lots of money - or get government money - to host the upcoming World Juniors.

The Feds broke it so of course they will pay to fix it. The problem will be the corporate sponsors who left and will look like chumps if they come back before any of the allegations are resolved.

Canada wins its 20th world junior hockey championship beating Czechia 3 - 2 in OT. Very entertaining game, the Czechs were full value for it too scoring twice a minute apart in the third period to tie it up. Good team, talented and they like to play physical like Canada. The US beat Sweden earlier today also in OT to take home the bronze. Canada is the first defending champion to repeat since........Canada in 2009 finished up its run of five straight gold medals.
