Fawlty, regarding the unidentified 55-70 year old female, is there a date?

Yes, sorry.

I typed all those new names out while I was half asleep which is how I used to do it back in the day.

The date of discovery for the 55-70 year-old Female was January 19, 1978.

It is believed she was deceased anywhere from 3 months to years.previous.

I have to ask, what is the whole objective of this list?

Is it going to just sit on this forum as a reminder of past cases or will a sub-forum with a post for each person be created?

I believe no such compact and inclusive list exists elsewhere on the internet.

Police/government don’t seem to keep one. For example, Greater Victoria Crimestoppers only lists 4 “cold cases”.

https://victoriacrim....ca/cold_cases/

I thought it would be a good place to keep a list.

I think it's valuable to keep this list up. The papers don't do enough coverage of cold cases in general. I believe Katie DeRosa with the T-C had an article on unsolved murders once, many years ago. Keep the victim's names out there.

It doesn't right now. Doe Network is international cases. The closest thing we had was Unsolved Canada but that site went down and is now partly archived. I still have no idea to this day what happened.

Cases get attention when they hit the net. Cases I can mention for this are Marion Joan McDowell, the Pauls family and the Nation River Lady. There is nothing more rewarding then seeing an unsolved case get attention, even if it's for a single tip.

It would be nice to see you guys make it happen.

And I mean coverage of Vancouver Island and the surrounding gulf islands. Doing anything more would be crazy.

Two more names for the list...

Mother of Duncan murder victim appeals for clues to 2019 Christmas Eve double homicide

December 23, 2021

Still grieving, Lucia Del Santo visited her son’s memorial Thursday at the scene of his Christmas Eve 2019 murder in Duncan, hanging pictures of Fran Shurie and his common-law wife Nellie Williams in happier times.

“I am just so sorry, so sorry he’s gone,” said Lucia Del Santo, who travelled from Kaslo to Duncan.

duncan.png

Friday marks two years since the couple was brutally killed in Duncan’s Charles Hoey Park, but according to Del Santo, the pain of the crime going unsolved makes it feel like just yesterday.

“I am so sorry I wasn’t there. I am so sorry I could not have done anything,” said Del Santo.

According to the RCMP’s Vancouver Island Major Crime Unit, the couple’s murder is still an active investigation, but have no updates on their case.

Foul play suspected in disappearance of Comox Valley man

Comox Valley

2022-01-10 - File #2020-6597

It has been almost two years, and investigators now suspect foul play in the disappearance of John Wesley Edwards ( Wes ) who was last seen in Courtenay on March 20th, 2020.

john-wesley-edwards-missing-1-4927785-16

Investigators have been actively following up on tips, interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence since the initial Missing Person report was received in 2020 said Cpl. Matt Holst, Comox Valley RCMP Major Crime Unit. Recently, new information has surfaced that Wes may have died as the result of foul play. His disappearance remains a priority for us to investigate. Wes was 45 years old when he disappeared. He is 5’9 tall, weighs approximately 145 pounds with blonde/grey hair and blue eyes.

As this investigation continues to move forward, the Comox Valley RCMP Major Crime Unit would like to ask anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it might seem, to come forward and speak with police.

If you have any information about the disappearance of John Wesley Edwards ( Wes ), please call the Comox Valley RCMP at (250) 338-1321 and refer to file number 2020-6597.

MISSING

Robert Micheal Slaughter - Esquimalt April 4, 2009

I knew Rob, loosely, through cycling.  He was/is the same age as me.  Every time I'd show up at a bike race in my early 20s, this animal from Victoria would show up, and 'slaughter' the competition. I always wished that I could ride as hard as he did.  Seeing his name on these sort of lists always makes me sad.

Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

Here is a nice historical one for you:

Harry Smith (25 years of age), son of George Smith,  murdered between October 23-27, 1897.

He was found in a shack his family owned in Telegraph Cove.

Family friend Bill "Billy" Hammond, a former Royal Navy sailor was suspected. No clear motive could be established and not a trace of blood could be found on Hammond or his clothing.

Large reward offered for information about missing Nanaimo woman

February 1, 2022

Investigators hope a financial incentive may lead to more information about a Nanaimo woman who went missing nearly two decades ago.

Lisa.png

Lisa Marie Young went missing in Nanaimo in 2002. On June 30, of that year, the 21-year-old was out at a bar with friends before going to a house party. She left with a man in a Jaguar before calling a friend back at the party.

Cyndy Hall, who has been advocating on behalf of Young for years, is among those with new hope there may be a break in the case.

Cyndy.png

“The reward would be for information leading to Lisa’s body. It won’t be for anything else like information about where she might be. The person has to lead the police to Lisa’s body and then they’ll be able to collect the reward,” said Hall.

A donor who wants to remain anonymous is giving $50,000 dollars U.S. for the information.

“Anything that helps bring information to the investigation is a positive thing and hopefully this is something that will do that,” said Cpl. Markus Muntener, with Nanaimo RCMP who has been leading the investigation in recent years.

“We believe there are still witnesses out there that have information that they’re potentially holding back from us for various reasons but we’re hoping that this might be enough to encourage some of those people to bring those final pieces forward to us,” said Cst. Hayley Pinfold, another investigator on the case from Nanaimo RCMP.

A podcast called Where is Lisa? first published in 2020 also shed new light on Lisa Young’s case.

re:

That's becoming a rather long list.

One wonders how such a lengthy list, over such a relatively short period of time, should reflect on the Police Departments (presumably Detectives) in what is largely Victoria and Saanich?

Is such a long list of unsolved murders typical for a population of roughly 200,000 people?

(A a portion of the "missing" list are very likely murders as well, Marguerite, Carmen, Jesokah)

it would be great to know the stats on the number of total murders, not just those unsolved to get an idea of the solve success rate for the vicpd ???

does any one know where one might access this data?  I am the wife of unsolved murder victim Jeremy Gordaneer (Aug 2021) and we are desperate for answers and are not given much info of any kind from the vicpd...

part of me trusts they are doing all they can but when i see that list of unsolved cases it does make me wonder....

and what do we do? if the police are bad at their job?

Red Dress Day | Do You Have Information About Missing Esquimalt Indigenous Woman Belinda Cameron?

Date: Thursday, May 5, 2022 - File: #2005-28114

Victoria, BC – On Red Dress Day, a National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, we are asking anyone with information about missing Esquimalt Indigenous woman Belinda Cameron to come forward and share what they know.

On this national day where we at VicPD both recognize and remember all Indigenous women, girls and two-spirit people who have gone missing or have been murdered, as well as honour their families, loved ones and communities, we are continuing our search for Belinda in our effort to help her family find answers.

Belinda Cameron, a mother to two young girls, was confirmed to have last been seen on May 11th, 2005. Belinda was last seen at Esquimalt’s Shoppers Drug Mart in the 800-block of Esquimalt Road that day.

Belinda was reported missing nearly a month later, on June 4th, 2005. Officers conducted an extensive investigation and a series of searches for Belinda. She has not been found.

At the time of her disappearance, Belinda was a 42-year-old Indigenous woman who stood five feet, eight inches tall with a medium to large build, and weighed approxim ately 170 pounds. Belinda had long, dark brown hair that she wore parted in the middle, and dark brown eyes. She wore silver-framed glasses. Two pictures of Belinda are below.

Belinda’s daughters are now adults and are seeking to understand their mother’s disappearance. Our detectives are committed to bringing closure to Belinda’s family and believe that somebody knows what happened to Belinda.

Belinda’s disappearance is considered suspicious and investigators believe that Belinda was the victim of foul play. Her disappearance continues to be investigated as a homicide.

If you have any information on where Belinda Ann Cameron may be, or what may have happened to her, you are asked to call our Historical Case Review Office as 250-995-7390, or call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
