Thanks to Dylan for finding a listing for this project:

Construction has begun.

I am not happy with the pink/brown colour of the bricks. That colour paint is being used too often in Victoria. My preference would have been restore the
old bricks to the original the way they have done to a building on Langley St.

The developers consulted with Heritage expert Donald Luxton on this project. We were told that a building of this type would not have had raw brick; the original builder intended it to be painted.

A DRA member informs me this has sold out already and that potential buyers are now being directed to Three Point's next project, 840 Fort (The Sawyer).

Today:

Not sure why the one wall has steel stud, it just covers the stairwell area, maybe it is not built like a normal rainscreen wall? Is it just going to be blank?

EDIT: Oh, I see it is.

Isn't the wood construction going to settle more than the steel?

I bet its for fire regulations as well. That wall could be abutting a future building next door?

Yep, that's pretty accurate. We weren't thrilled with the blank wall on the lot line but they did committ to making it with different colours.

For contrast:

Sorry about that photo disappearing. I can't ID it from the Flickr numbers.

Here's my recent image of the facade

There's a thread for Bossi House (1007 Johnson) under the "Heritage" forum.

Looks like this one's coming along nicely. :)

I really don't like the cheap-motel entrances to the suites off a common balcony.

And why should you? I bet the people who bought there don't mind though.

Now THAT is how you acceptably do a blank wall. There's no excuse for plain concrete, specially when you know your blank wall will be visible for a very long time. Give me some colours and patterns!

Thanks for making the obvious clear.

Methinks the folks in those units won't be thrilled when somebody tries to build something (anything) on the adjacent lots.

I really don't like the cheap-motel entrances to the suites off a common balcony.

They actually did a slightly better job of it than some other more high-profile buildings, but I still think this sort of thing shouldn't be allowed in the city proper.

What's wrong with the way the apartment entrances off a common balcony are done on this building?

I can understand the undesirableness of such a design on larger buildings like the ones in the Songhees, but the Bossi house addition seems like a very pratical use of this design feature.

Really? I'd much rather walk a common outdoor hallway to my suite than a dimly lit interior corridor-- most condo hallways are downright depressing. I've always thought that style of building was really cool.

Fair enough. I temper my earlier statement. They should only be allowed in those instances in which they're a practical necessity, and only on small buildings. They definitely should not have been allowed on the Songhees or on the Trendwest resort's building (unless we're saying we like buildings that look like gigantic motels).
