Umm aren't they a little behind on this?

Ah yes post 15 of this thread from April 2008 mentions Trevor Linden's involvement. So two year old news. Good work TC!

Yay, Carla:

Linden invests in city; The newly retired Canucks forward is connected with a new project

Carla Wilson
Jun 13, 2008

Former Vancouver Canucks forward Trevor Linden is a partner in a planned residential-commercial development on the corner of Herald and Government streets in Victoria.

Linden, who retired from a 20-year professional hockey career this week, is a co-investor with Vancouver companies Primewest, whose president is Paul Williams, and Formwerks Development Corp., with Howard Airey as president.

--------

In other breaking news, Rick Illich is renovating the Hudson. And the rumour mill says the James Bay mudflats may be the site of a new Rattenbury hotel.
"Beaver, ahoy!""The bridge is like a magnet, attracting both pedestrians and over 30,000 vehicles daily who enjoy the views of Victoria's harbour. The skyline may change, but "Big Blue" as some call it, will always be there."

West, an attractive lowrise in Point Grey, is notable not only for its architecture, high-end finishes and prime location, but also for who is behind the project.

It was the city that made them change the shape of the large arched windows, yes? So now they'll be the same shape as the windows on Mr. Linden's Point Grey building.

^As I understand it (and it may have been mentioned here earlier) the round-topped windows were changed to the gentle arch similar to the above because someone (Design Panel? Heritage Dept? can't remember) felt it wasn't appropriate for Chinatown. The developer didn't argue that much because a big arched window is expensive to design and build because it's not quite as structurally sound so it needs extra bolstering.

The old Chinese building next door is having extensive seismic renovations.

A sales trailer has arrived on site.

At least I think it's a sales trailer. It looks too nice to be a contractor office, but I could be wrong. We'll see.

Someone on FB is asking for a date on the building with the 7-Up sign. Anyone?

1905, according to Mr. Segger's book. I believe the date is actually on the top of the building.

No idea when the 7up ad was put on the side.

Yes and No. The sales trailer is for the 613 Herald (Kabuki Kabs).

Yesterday I did notice a half dozen guys poking around in the 601 lot, looking at a trench that was dug up along the 7-Up building.

^ Oh, OK. Yes it is definitely on the 613 lot, takes up 3/4 of the width. Didn't know that was happening soon.

Mixed-use project breaks ground in Chinatown
By Mike Kozakowski, VibrantVictoria.ca

Chinatown’s latest mixed-use residential and commercial project broke ground this afternoon at 601 Herald Street.

Vancouver-based Airey Group purchased the old Victoria Brake Ltd. property several years ago with plans to develop a project that fit in with the neighbourhood and elicited a sense of historic charm. [...]
