Excavation has completed and piling work has begun.

Just down the street at the municipal yard the walls of drab sheds facing Bridge St will become murals. Work has already started.

I was over at Steel Pacific today, round mid-day and I took a small detour past this site on the way back to my own, noticed that LBC had one of their mobiles on site and they were standing the first rebar column!

Is it just me, or.... have you ever seen this many people actually standing upright at the current Streetlink? I think the artist forgot to put in about 30 people sitting up against the building, lying in the doorways, sprawled across those stairs etc. Probably just a simple oversight. Astra, can you photoshop us up a more true version? Maybe a have a guy breaking the window of that car to get parking meter change. Or better yet, a guy arriving at his suite with a parking meter head in his hand.

I like the guy in the middle, with his no-nonesense foot-up-on-the-step swagger. He's going places...but probably not Streetlink.

At least the guy on the far right is yawning and stretching as he wakes up after sleeping the night in the doorway.

That and there is a high percentage (50%) of conjoined twins represented in the photo. I wonder if that is a key client group for Streetlink?

We should do a compilation of the all time architectural figure greatest hits.
"Beaver, ahoy!""The bridge is like a magnet, attracting both pedestrians and over 30,000 vehicles daily who enjoy the views of Victoria's harbour. The skyline may change, but "Big Blue" as some call it, will always be there."

It's an ugly little building, but it doesn't offend me. An honest functional structure doesn't bother me as much as a faux-anything.

Given the location, I works for the design, though it towers over everything

For some reason I thought this was supposed to be 4 storeys.

I remember it being proposed as six stories.

My biggest concern about the site is that is infringing on an industrial area. We have a scarcity of industrial land and can not afford to let any more of it to be lost.

^ Where else can you stick this type of project though?

Most industrial users of the area, that by and large are males, will put up with it, don't feel threatened by it. That's why they put up with the hookers now. They are all mostly 8-4:30pm M-F businesses that see like-minded trades-people as clients, not the general public.

The discussion on homeless issues and the Ellice St. shelter have been moved to the homelessness / drug abuse thread.
