That's not quite right.

There are 725 condominium units under construction in downtown Victoria alone, plus another 356 purpose-built rental units. And that's just downtown Victoria, not the rest of the City of Victoria proper. For realtime stats see http://victoria.citified.ca/data/

Live data also does not include recently completed projects like the 106-unit Hudson Walk Two, the 65-unit Azzurro, etc.

your stats differ substantially from monthly government reports

That's the point I have been trying to make all along.

So you are fine now with the Casino using the name Victoria then since that is where it is located?

Yes, for sure they do, and that's because government reports appear to be very inaccurate if indeed they are meant to indicate active construction.

It takes us just a few moments to determine that the government's figure is many hundreds short of what's actually happening.

- The Wade: 102-units

- 989: 206-units

- Legato: 88-units

- Cityzen: 32-units

There's the government's 428.

But what about:

- Encore: 134-units

- Madisson: 22-units

- 200 Cook: 36-units (plus 17 rentals)

- Jukebox: 215-units

- Black and White: 75-units

...and others? Already for the City of Victoria we have a total of 910-units currently under construction and that's not taking into consideration all condos under construction, nor does that take into consideration all of the city-proper's purpose-built rentals, townhomes and single-family homes also underway.

I will be as soon as View Royal is legally the same city as Victoria. Currently it is only socially and psychologically the same city. That being said, if VR promises to share casino revenue with the CoV I'll help install the signage myself.

That Old Island Highway strip seems to really want to be a part of Victoria despite politicians doing their darndest to hide that fact.

Royal Roads University's website is titled Royal Roads University | Victoria, BC.

The Colwood Corners development was originally dubbed Capital City Centre.

The new casino branding specifically positions itself as a Victoria casino.

Yup, that's closer, but from what we're able to deduce there are 685 purpose-built rental units currently under construction in the CoV-proper, so their data is a little off (likely counting some projects that have already completed but missing others currently underway, etc.), plus the 320-bed seniors residential care facility (still counted as a housing unit, I guess).

^I am not sure if that's counted as a housing unit, but who knows.  How is a new hotel counted?

Why should they share any revenue? They will simply say go build your own casino.

That's a transient unit, but a long-term care facility (I.e. A full-time residence for someone) is not unlike a home. I'll have to get a clearer definition of how those units work into the grand scheme of things.

It occurred to me that a long term care facility housing unit consists of no more than a bedroom, closet and bathroom.  thats it, no living room, no kitchen, etc that is typically found in a normal condo.  For that reason, I don't consider these as a "housing unit" on par and to be included in the same list as condo units under construction

While that is true for many such facilities the higher end ones - Berwick House in Royal Oak is probably the best example - actually do offer some residents units with conventional living / dining rooms, modest kitchens and 1+ bedrooms and/or dens.

Neither do SRO's but don't we still consider them housing units?

I honestly don't know, the question would be what is the legal definition of a housing unit.  I think you need a kitchen for a basement suite to officially become a suite

Heck, maybe someone should build cage homes, each of those new high rises could have 10,000 homes per tower.

http://asiasociety.o...ngkongcages.jpg

My point is there needs to be a minimum standard for it to become a housing unit. I think every person will have a different definition and I will bet you mine is much larger than the average persons.  In my eyes its self contained, you don't need to leave your residence to take a shower, to go to the fridge, cook, etc

I am also feeling this is probably pulling this thread off topic so feel free to move it to something more appropriate, I just have no idea how to do that

So the new hours when it opens (late December they are aiming for) will be 4am closing Sun, Mon, Tues, Wed.  When it opens Thursday morning, it stays open until 4am Sunday.

Lynn didn't have a firm date for the pushed back completion, but he suspects it'll be sometime early in 2018. Phase two is on track for Spring of this year. It includes a 600 seat theatre for concerts and other events. When phase two is complete, the old View Royal Casino will more than double its original size with the addition of 42,000 square feet.

I am told the exterior cladding will have an iridescent finish that changes colour in the light.

I have a hard time considering it to be anything beyond a glorified bingo and slots parlour until such time as they put some actual casino games in there.

Poker and Craps are musts for serious gamblers.

Sure they've got basic Blackjack, but the rest of the table games are all branded (trademarked) games with terrible odds, and Roulette is ... well ... Roulette, with it's abysmal odds right out of the gate.

There's literally not a single game other than Blackjack that any serious gambler would sit down for.

It ain't the River Rock ... which is what it needs to be if it wants to attract actual gamblers who spend money on food and shows.

It's funny, Craps used to be banned, they did not want to do "dice games".  But the players (Asians) demanded it.

Indeed, craps was illegal in Canada up until 1999, at which time the big casino in Windsor ON opened up the first few tables after the law was changed.

The original law was an ancient one and had more to do with dice as tools of gambling than it did with the actual game of Craps, but it prevented the game from being played legally in Canada nonetheless.

It's a hard game to deal, and it's expensive as it needs multiple housemen (box, stickman, etc) for each and every table.

BUT ... it also offers the best odds of all table games, and can even swing a fraction of a percent to the players favour under certain circumstances.

But it's the absence of poker at View Royal that never made any sense to me, as they opened the place up at the absolute height of pokers popularity, and yet theres no Hold'Em to be found there.

Those games they do have with the name "poker" attached to them have absolutely nothing to do with poker, and are considered sucker games, just shy of playing some old suckers dog like Crown and Anchor.

But I firmly believe that they run this place as a slots parlour, with a single table of Roulette and a few tables of Blackjack thrown in to make it all look somewhat like a real casino.

they are adding more table games, poker tables, off track betting room and a "high rollers" section which may have craps.
