Herb Kwan proposed a 7-storey residential/commercial building west of 1030 Yates and east of the Moxies restaurant building. Well, the structure that stood on that lot has been bulldozed! I guess this just happened as I hadn't noticed the empty lot until this morning.

What?? That's crazy. Well, yet another gaping maw in downtown Victoria that might stay that way for a while.

I saw them clearing bricks from the site as recently as Thursday. I am pretty sure that the developer is not even past the concept phase let alone having gone to the city yet. Still this is an important lot. Will the developer attempt to follow the lots on the East or the West of this lot? To the west is zero setback commerical and to the east is a deep setback combo of commercial and residential. personally I hoping we see some nice zero setback store fronts.

It would make more sense to build 10-stories there and save the 7-story job for the Volvo lot.

^....easier said than done, a lot of time and effort goes into creating the plans, even thought they may be in the early stages of the project.

I'd like to see a 10 to 12 floor building

That side of the block is begging for something to counteract the Regent Park buildings (suburban in style) across the street. A thin midrise would be an excellent fit for that lot, perhaps with several floors of office space?

A thin tower? Sandwiched between two blank walls, wouldn't full site coverage be better?

Perhaps they should just slap a liquor store and everything will be alright in that area.

I say build it at a minimum of 12 stories...

:(

that 5 story building was a waste of real estate.

Hank is a shrewd businessman. Banking on his celebrity, he opens Hank's Look-A-Round Cafe, a rotating restaurant conveniently located at ground level, with no view.

You'd hear arguments like this "It's made out of glass, what if the big one hit? The glass would kill everyone!" or, "It's too modern for Victoria," or something as absurd like that.

Perhaps they would like it better if they put a huge billboard of Nelly Furtado on it. Actually, I'd like that, but whatever.

that looks really nice too. I'd usually go "slap the Shaw Tower there!" But not in that spot. I think that looks really good and it would fit the neighbour hood quiet nicely right there.
