I heard an internet rumour that Bill Gates owns quite an impressive yacht.

I believe Sebastien Cabot used it to explore Mexico in 1559, well before his Hollywood gig.

You couldn't have missed my point better than you did.

Theres just no pleasing you today Mr McAvity! Maybe cause you'd rather be sailing on Bill Gates yacht (y'know the one with the helipad) then shoveling a driveway.

Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen owns/owned a megayacht, Tatoosh, that visited the Inner Harbour in 2003. Maybe that confusion is the source of the urban legend of Bill Gates' yacht.

I still can't believe Ms. Woods didn't know Mr. French.
"Beaver, ahoy!""The bridge is like a magnet, attracting both pedestrians and over 30,000 vehicles daily who enjoy the views of Victoria's harbour. The skyline may change, but "Big Blue" as some call it, will always be there."

A guy named Frenchy who sailed around Hawaii with Bill Gates in the late 1600s and then became a Hollywood star for his cooking show in the 1950s.

Sure, I remember him.

He's a 250 pound English actor (worked with Gielgud). He came to America and worked in TV. Best remembered for working with Brian Keith in Family Affair.

Also on Checkmate, a detective series (with Joseph Cotten?).

I know where a property he owns is, it is waterfront, but he may own many more than this one. He has owned it for years, it was a family property and they subdivided and sold off a few lots but he still retains a portion of the property.

"Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen owns/owned a megayacht" - the son-in-law of a friend of mine crewed on Allen's yacht off the Riviera until he got fired from the job last year.

Barbra Streisand's yacht (avec helicopter) is often seen in the Inner Harbour. The Bill Gates yacht is a figment of someone's imagination.

Same for John Travolta living on the penninsula - that urban legend has been de-bunked so often I can't believe people still believe it!

Meg Tilley (and her famous siblings) grew up in Victoria. She had a house on Beach Drive for a few years, but has since moved to Vancouver and is writing chilrens' books.

I went to an Advisory Planning Commission Christmas party on the penninsula some years ago- one of the guests looked familiar, so I asked him if he was a new APC member. He said no. Turns out he's a musician - one of the Irish Rovers who lived down the street at the time.

You've forgotten all about Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, who used to stop here while salmon fishing and/or golfing. John Wayne also used to come by for fishing - he paid for a marina in Sequim, which is named, oddly enough - the John Wayne Marina!

Tony Curtis - whose photo was in the TC last week.

Pamela Anderson, of Ladysmith, seen shopping on LoJo.....
Goldie Hawn and her husband who were often seen on Saltspring and bought folk art made by my ex

Goldie Hawn and Mel Gibson in town to film "Bird on a Wire". One of my favorite photos was enlarged and posted in the coffee shop that was located next to the alley. Mel used to go in there for coffee. The photo is of him behind the counter casually leaning against the wall, and the waitress (who was well known to us regulars) standing beside him looking up at him adoringly, with an expression that said - "I can't believe this is really me standing here with Mel Gibson!!!" I wonder whatever happened to that photo. Ideally it should be hanging in that waitresses' living room. If not there, it should have a place in the municipal archives....

One of my government workmates looking at snapshots in the coffee room...she said they were of a wedding and showed them to me. Isn't that Elton John??? I said. Turns out that she was one of Diana Krall's school friends and had attended her wedding in Britain.

Yes, but why do you want it?

Let's just say it is near the BC ferry terminal.

For may years I have heard the media speculate about the owners of the maga yachts that visit our waters...Bill Gates....Barbra Streisand. In particular, the "Attessa", which I recall as being among the first of the regular mega yachts to come into the Inner Harbour. From a google search it seems quite clear that Dennis Washington is the current owner (think Seaspan - not Hollywood)

To validate your claim. Don't want to perpetuate another John Travolta-like rumour.
