Always remember(a younger me) a popular historical downtown Ottawa hotel the manager claimed they could smell my pot smoke coming out of the vent of the guy down the hall and all the rooms, after arguing about the smoking fee for some time manager complimented me on how good my stuff must be but it wasn’t that great he just had a bad HVAC system. They may have caught me but I also caught them.

There are 23 guest rooms/suites. We have 9 long term tenants and rooms for more. Many of the rooms have private balconies with ocean and sunset views. Some rooms feature gas fireplaces and kitchenettes. Malcolm Island is home to a brand new medical clinic as well as marine hardware store and large breakwater. The Oceanfront Hotel and apartments has been owned and loved by Ray & Robin since 1986. They are handing the reins over to the next generation. Don't miss out on this rare opportunity.

Oh that’s a great place. The pub only serves booze but you can order your food in. Really nice people and good fish!

Édit: Must be a different place, or it’s changed since I was last there since they mention a commercial kitchen.

An almost-$8 million floating resort is now up for sale near Tofino.

The Tofino Wilderness Resort, located in the Clayoquot Sound, is a 20 minute boat road from the remote Island community and is currently selling for $7.995 million.

The resort is 126 acres and includes a “floating main lodge,” a separate long house, and a range of amenities.

Its most illustrious feature is the freshwater swimming grotto within the resort.

Come to Canada.  Become a housekeeper.

Camosun College trains nine refugees for work in Tofino

Nine young refugees from Kenya will soon be working in the Tofino hospitality sector, thanks to a partnership between Camosun College and World University Services Canada (WUSC).

The education-based refugee settlement program, targeting young single applicants, is unlike anything yet practised in Canada, according to Geoff Wilmshurst, vice-president of partnerships at Camosun.

_______________________

They were slated to begin work placements at Tofino’s Long Beach Lodge Resort, Tofino Resort and Marina and Shelter/Shed Restaurant and a one-year term of community settlement support. The positions at Long Beach Resort are entry-level housekeeping jobs, said general manager Samantha Hackett. She added several international staff members started there and have worked their way up to supervisory positions over the last 14 years.

They could likely all make much better money in other trades, but the program that partially funds their wages puts them into the simplest jobs.

Sidney councillor concerned about conversion of condo into hotel

https://www.vicnews....ndo-into-hotel/

Coun. Sara Duncan worries about housing supply

A Sidney councillor is concerned about the pending conversion of a local condominium building in the downtown core into a hotel.

Coun. Sara Duncan expressed worries as council discussed the enforcement of the municipality’s short-term rental bylaw.

___________

Once converted, the building would be subject to higher commercial rather than residential taxes, he added. Staff later told Black Press Media that the municipality cannot share application details yet because the building is in the pre-application phase.

Staff promised additional details once the file becomes active, likely in early 2022. The application involves a small building with fewer than 10 units.

Who cares?  It's 10 units and extremely rare.  Move on to more important stuff.

The Sand Pebbles Inn in Qualicum Beach suffered significant damage after giant waves battered the town’s waterfront on Friday (Jan. 7).

The heritage business, in existence for 65 years, lost its sea wall and the water brought down some parts of the building’s outer structure.

Manager Danielle Filmer said they were not expecting the massive waves.

“This has never happened before,” said Filmer. “It was quite a high tide yesterday and I have never seen the water come over the wall like that.”

There were guests inside the building when it happened, who were eventually evacuated safely.

It was a frightening experience, said Filmer.

Yup, it was a king tide.

They can happen anywhere, and will make oceanfront property owners rethink their strategies, for sure.

No timeline for completion of historic Sooke Harbour House renovations

‘We’re working toward getting it done as soon as we can,’ says owner

https://www.vicnews....se-renovations/

There is no way to predict when the ongoing renovations at Sooke Harbour House will be completed.

^ This is quite a statement. No way to predict? None at all? What about an educated guess? How about an Ouija board? That’s what my contractor uses. He’s got one in his office and a mobile one in his tool belt.

^Getting trades and materials is so hit-and-miss now nobody can predict when anything will be finished.

I went by a development site today, and they were pouring cement in the pouring rain, you just have to take it when it arrives.

The quality of some of the construction today is going to be very suspect.
