I was persuaded to get the 125-year-extended-warranty when I bought my condo. I haven't regretted it for a minute. ;)

Also, I like to stay in nice hotels when I travel.

This eco-resort welcomes guests to the rainforest wilderness of northern Vancouver Island. The property offers several types of accommodations, from lodge rooms to cabins and oceanfront suites. The main lodge offers rooms as well as a lounge, dining area, boardroom and den/library. An oceanfront deck invites guests to look out over the private bay.

909567_83.jpg

The resort is completely off-grid and has an excellent power system in place more than adequate to servicing the property. There is good road access via Telegraph Cove Rd to a 3km road through Crown land that leads to Hidden Cove. This is a well-managed resort run by the original owners who after 35 years have decided it is time to pass it along. A spectacular location, breath-taking scenery, well-equipped facilities and access to local services make this a great opportunity.

Real estate firm CBRE says Canadian hotels will return to pre-pandemic revenues next year, two years ahead of its previous forecast.

The firm is projecting the Canadian hotels market will end this year at 92 per cent of the revenue per available room achieved in 2019, before the health crisis began.

It is forecasting moderate revenue growth will continue into 2023 as hotel operators push for higher room rates and projects revenue per available room will hit $107 next year.

Yeah, but how many hotels have closed, and how many units removed from hotel inventory to accomplish this “rebound?”

Victoria lost what, 15% of its hotel capacity since 2020?

City Centre Hotel, Ho Jo, Comfort Inn, Paul’s Motor Inn, and I forget if the Ramada is still operating as a housing facility or as a hotel.

Most of the CoV's low-mid-range hotels were taken over by the government.

Certainly much of the inventory north of Caledonia.

Add to that the many closures of hotels in years prior, and conversions to residences, and I would not be surprised if we’ve lost 30% of Victoria’s hotel room inventory since 2000.

Inn and restaurant/pub in Alert Bay. The Orca Inn offers two rental suites and one hotel room, as well as a self-contained 3 bedroom manager’s suite. There is a restaurant and a separate pub, as well as a space that was a cold beer and wine store or could be used as other retail space. It enjoys unobstructed ocean views over Broughton Strait and across to the shores of Vancouver Island with the mountains in the distance. The manager’s suite and 3 rental units are all upstairs, with the restaurant and commercial kitchen below. The restaurant features newer flooring and a pellet stove. The commercial kitchen is well maintained and well equipped with propane appliances. The retail space at the end of the building has a bank of back-loading coolers, as well as a service counter and some other equipment. Above the retail space is the pub, currently licensed for 35 seats. It features an area for live music and is the only pub operating in Alert Bay at this time.

Stunning ocean and mountain views from this 5000+ sqft waterfront multipurpose building currently operating as a B & B in a part of the upper area. The lower level has large unfinished area, is walk-out. Beach access and owner's suite. Excellent salmon fishing right out front. Unlimited commercial possibilities as it is right next to the ferry. All ferry traffic has to pass right by the commercial door.

Elk Lake Inn and Suites Victoria is heading for a major upgrading and expansion starting next week.

The Royal Oak hotel will become a Holiday Inn Express, part of the IHG family of hotels, said Bradley Martin, a director of the company that owns the property.

Martin said both Saanich and Victoria are in “desperate need” of new hotel rooms because they’ve lost so many over the last 10 to 15 years.

Once work is completed, the hotel will have 138 rooms, up from the current 87. The hotel will continue to operate during the renovation.

The two-stage plan will begin with renovation of the 2001 section of the building, facing 4670 Elk Lake Dr., with its 71 rooms and common areas. Improvements will include new carpeting and furnishings.

https://www.timescol...pansion-5895583

The Holiday Inn is among at least five new hotels or expansions in the pipeline, bringing new rooms and jobs to the region, along with investment of tens of millions of dollars.

Sidney has toughened its final response to plans for a hotel-restaurant development.

Kothari Group plans to build a three-storey, 129-room hotel on a lot fronting Beacon Avenue West and Stirling Way with a single-storey restaurant nearby. The area was once under consideration for the Gateway project, a large retail development that did not come to fruition after drawing public opposition.

The proposed development — which lies within municipal boundaries but outside municipal control under the authority of the Victoria Airport Authority — first appeared before council in September after becoming public in late July. Council deferred a final, non-binding response to this development referral until Monday, which saw Coun. Barbara Fallot propose amendments to staff recommendations.

https://www.vicnews....tional-airport/

Not every development should be seen as an opportunity for councils to demand amenities and public improvements from the proponents.

But that seems to be the familiar pattern.

It’s often a car of “what can we get?” Instead of welcoming the additional business a local hotel will spin off.
