Another amendment drops a conditional should in calling for the inclusion of improvements to Beacon Avenue West and Stirling Way to standards identified in the Beacon West Traffic Study, an extension of the multi-use path along the full extent of the Beacon Avenue West frontage to extend to the intersection of Highway 17 as well as a pedestrian sidewalk along Stirling Avenue.

^ those are all Sidney’s responsibilities, not the responsibility of a single property developer.

Let’s see a real traffic study for cars and pedestrians here. If it indicates an additional usage of 3% then it’s fair to ask the developer to chip in 3% for the cost of the improvements. No more.

The shopping centre was approved!! Public opposition had nothing to do with it not proceeding, it was the cost to build the pedestrian overpass, and competition from the shopping centre nearby in North Saanich that nixed it. That overpass would have been extremely expensive and eventually made redundant with a highway interchange. Sidney sort of messed up there.

It was also not called Gateway, but Sidney Crossing.

That's some stellar journalism, Mr. Stiebel. Nothing about the hotel's recent legal/ownership issues?

Now when I link, I get the rest of the article.

...While work is proceeding on the patios and renovations to the exterior of the landmark hotel and one-acre property on Whiffin Spit Road, Watson said it’s too early to tell when the hotel would be ready to open.

“There’s no specific timeline because we want to get it done right,” Watson said. “We’re looking forward to getting it open, maybe by the spring.”

AIG Enterprises bought the property that included a 28-room hotel and restaurant hotel for $5.6 million in July 2020, intending to make it a destination with a West Coast vibe for visitors and locals.

The North Vancouver-based company put it back on the market last summer.

“We’re always checking all of our options, but nothing is happening at this time,” Watson said regarding a potential sale...

https://www.vicnews....ing-completion/

Still nothing about the hotel's recent ownership saga.

Additionally, people pay to read the Victoria News online?

Some hotels putting staff up in rooms amid housing shortage

At the Hotel Grand Pacific, 463 Belleville St., between five and 10 temporary foreign workers are expected to arrive for what is anticipated to be a strong tourist season, said Ian Wish, director of sales and marketing. As far as staffing this year, “We are actually doing not too badly right now in terms of most departments. It’s really just housekeeping where we are struggling still,” he said.

“We are willing to give up a few rooms to have housekeepers that can help us sell even more rooms.”

Employees who need a place to stay will have their own room, augmented by features such as fridges and microwave ovens.

Putting up staff in hotel rooms is something new for the hotel, which is looking at offering it to people from this country as well, Wish said.

Hasn’t that been a thing for years and years now, in a broader sense? I’ve seen job listings from local hotels advertising boarding.
