How come you weren't on the list of artists on the handbill?

Thanks for noticiing. Taking a break this year. I heard one person saying it looked a little sparse this year, especially on the Fort St. half. And was there more of a corporate presence/

Went for the first time in probably 15 years as Mrs ASE's firm was sponsoring one of the road side display 'Imagination stations'; the event was jam packed, huge crowd and many seemed to be in a giving mood judging by the amount of coin I saw being handed over for donation purposes.

Interesting observation from some Brit/Scottish friends of ours who've been in Canada maybe 10-12 years now. Both commented had a crowd that size gathered in Britain it almost certainly would have spawned mass problems with public drunkenness and disorderly conduct, resulting in a heavy riot & mounted police presence. They - and we frankly - found it almost eerie that 30,000+ people made barely a sound as they happily but very very quietly enjoyed the day. As my buddy said in his heavy Scottish brogue "aye...typically Canadian, apparently".

As an aside there were some damn good artwork on display. For the small size of this town there is a_lot of talent here.....

Funny, we were just there as well and commented on how quite it was despite the number of people.

I went with my kids. It got too crowded for us, but we loved the guy doing stone on glass and the Mix-Fits (once we could get close enough to see the pieces).I hope donations are better than they've been in the past. It's a great event.

Like most free Victoria events it draws a large crowd. I often wonder if the same number of people would attend if there were an obligatory nominal charge to help defray costs. Are the onsite donation figures made public? In a way everyone does pay of course via tax-deductible corporate sponsorship. I am sure TD doesn't attach their name to this event without some sort of benefit to their bottom line.

I remember one year when the gallery shared estimated crowd size and what they took in, and it worked out to 25 cents a person.i think.

They claimed today on average the MSPI generates $15K annually in donations; based on the small sample I witnessed today near our volunteer station - assuming 30K is close the actual numbers attending - I would say at least this year that estimate was probably low. The average donation appeared to be $2-5, with many happily shelling out $5-10....
