^I would expect that Ogden Point would be inconvenient for everything except the cruise ships. I know that I wouldn't catch the PCL if I had to make my way all the way out there. Perhaps the best option is a combined bus and ferry terminal downtown. So buses, Blackball and the Clipper are all together.

Why? There is hardly any direct connection between those groups of travellers. I submit that less than 1% of COHO and Clipper arrivals want to get right on a bus. COHO passengers do not transfer to Clipper or vice-versa, and only a few bus-arriving passengers go to the Clipper or COHO.

If someone wants to go from Nanaimo to Seattle, I don't think many go Greyhound/Clipper.

I was thinking more of shared needs aspect, not shared customers. Both require waiting areas, ticket booths and public restrooms. I don't think its going to happen, just thinking out loud if they were to knock down the current bus station.

Ya, OK, hadn't thought that out. I'll go with that, especially washrooms/waiting. And I guess taxi bays etc. too. I see PCLers coming off the bus and grabbing a quick taxi to their hotel.

PCL is cutting back service to just odd-houred ferries, I think. More details later.

Given that there is faster transit on our side now, is there really a need for the PCL in the same way as it has been?

The PCL has got comfort and convenience in spades over the public transit method. Their "hot deal" prices are very good, too.

If I was ever going to take the bus to the ferry, I'd want to take the PCL.

I did the PCL a few times when I was younger (too young to drive) and I agree, comfort and convenience is a big plus.

I have rarely used the PCL in last twenty years, but I regularly do use public transit on both ends. Saving close to $40 on a round trip is worth it to me. Even with the hot deal I am $18 or so ahead by using public transit.

I also happen to have long legs and the PCL seats mean my knees suffer, on public transit there are seats I can get that have the legroom I want

I've only done the PCL trip once and being dropped off on Main Street as opposed to right smack in the middle of downtown was a huge deterrent to ever using the service again.

Skytrain can take Downtown in moments, though you end up spending money for transit. You can also now change to the Canada Line along Cambie to get to Downtown Vancouver

Back in the day they always had a drop-off downtown but they eliminated it at some point. Dropped you off right at the Hotel Vancouver.

See that'd be perfect.

I don't see the need to take the PCL only to transfer onto a train in Richmond or get dropped off at Main and skytrain into downtown.

The old bus station in Downtown Vancouver was close to the Queen E and meant they came into right into the core and would drop people along the way.

By Jan Beecher NANAIMO — In an effort to compete with public transit, Greyhound Canada has applied to the BC Passenger Transportation Board to abandon its Vancouver-Nanaimo inter-city licence.

Currently, Greyhound holds an inter-city licence for the Vancouver-Nanaimo corridor, requiring the company to run six scheduled trips per day, in each direction, between the two cities.

“GCTU [Greyhound Canada] is unable to compete, either fare or frequency wise, with the heavily subsidized transit bus services operated by TransLink and BC Transit,” the company stated in an explanatory paper included in their application to abandon the licence.

They state the Nanaimo-Vancouver inter-city route lost more than $1.3 million in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2010...
