^ ^ that's about $40 less than a similar plan was 3 years ago.

Not sure that I really care since I only check/send emails and visit a few websites on my phone
Of course in Canada we are restricted to cell phone data with caps on usage, but in the US its unlimited data for what we pay for a basic plan.
Now I get to hear from my US friends, what do you mean you don't have UBER and you have caps on your cell phone data! I can't wait for what else I am missing out by living here

My new plan, since November, is a flat $30 US a month unlimited everything, no long distance charges, no taxes or fees.
Will it ever get to that in Canada? Doubtful?

Considering we're unlikely to get the $60/10GB plan back for quite a while, I'd say what your paying ain't gonna happen.

^but even to get a nice new phone like a Samsung S9 or an iPhone X your plan has to be at least $105/month to get it for a reasonable price
It looks like I am going to have to buy my new S9 outright for $1000 so I can keep my plan cost low.

^about $45 a month, but even if my plan was $105/month they still want $250 for the phone
I think I am going to buy my new phone outright and go to Public Mobile (owned by Telus and their network), and they have a plan of 2 GB of 4G data and unlimited talk and text for $45/month. It means I would save $25/month when factoring in the outright phone purchase
Even US roaming is cheaper - $20 for 10 days of unlimited talk and text with 250 MB of data. Telus wants $7/day

Telus is incentivizing (forcing) Public Mobile customers to move to Koodo.

I guess I am just never that interested in the newest phone.
I have a 2.5 year old BlackBerry I bought new from the official BB store for $200 with a special promo code. I'm probably due for a replacement but everything else just seems like a compromise the way I use it.

Freedom Mobile has proposed another cell tower in an effort to launch a new network in Greater Victoria.
The latest proposal was met with some opposition during a public hearing Monday at Langford’s council meeting with residents expressing concerns about the appearance of the pole, its proximity to homes and potential health problems coming from exposure to electromagnetic radiation.

Their website still does not show Victoria having their own network. Until that happens, hard pass.

I am going to assume they will release their network when the stores open around Feb 1
I looked into getting Freedom Mobile earlier this year and be on their away network and I was told by a sales agent that if a certain percentage of use was in the away network (I think it was 75-80%) they would shut off service
