If you grew up around here in the 70s you'll remember the catchy C&H Pure Cane Sugar commercials on TV.

This morning, after 140 years of production, the last shipment of Hawaii sugar left Maui.

While not technically 'local' one of my favorite north-west (Seattle) commercials was this Mickey Rooney gem from about 1976 for Rainier Beer, which won a bunch of awards:

The outrageous Dick Balsh Chevrolet commercials where Balsh, long hippie hair, wild "mod" getup (think Don Cherry on acid) and insane laugh while he beat the s*** out of perfectly good cars on his lot with a sledgehammer was another favorite.

If I remember correctly the same creators we're responsible for this commercial:

Think some of the same actors.

How about a Growing Pains reunion with the ghost of Alan Thicke?

How about a Growing Pains reunion with the ghost of Alan Thicke?

Only if Kirk Cameron promises to play Mike Seaver as a self-righteous, born-again Christian.

Funny, I just finished a series called Blindspot (excellent btw) that starred Ashley Johnson, aka Chrissy Sever from Growing Pains.

Also, the soundtrack to this series was brilliant. The director commissioned Matt Berninger to do a cover of Dear Prudence for the final scene. If anyone can point me to a source for this track I’ll mail you a doughnut.

Matt.

Gordon Price is a dedicated urbanist, politician and professional transportation planning expert and his views are well known on this forum. Another view that is getting well known is his friend's butt, courtesy of a malfunctioning green screen Zoom background.

Have never been a particular fan of Paul Haysom (Global TV Vancouver), but this morning he grates even more than usual.

My main issue with him is that he has an overt and very visible tendency to get quite animated (read very irritated, on air) with any story or person which/who gets under his skin or with whom he may personally dislike or disagree with - which is not the role of a news reader, ever, except in only very rare instances - rather than remaining detached, professional, above all impartial while letting the viewer make up his or her mind regarding whatever the subject of the story happens to be. Not a great trait for someone who claims journalism is "in his blood".

Further one of my pet peeves for any TV-radio 'journalist' is that they at least do their homework before airing a story - and for heaven sake if you don't know especially how to pronounce a word particularly one in common usage, ask a colleague before going to air.

Currently this morning there are two masonic halls in North Vancouver on fire, and Haysom happened to be the guy reporting back to the Global morning anchor.

Masons have been part of the fabric of Canada since before there was a Canada. Its not a particularly long word, nor is it at all remotely difficult to pronounce, so it was with some surprise and more than a little irritation that he intoned about the "....not one but two MAY-sonic lodges are on fire this hour...." . First off mister professional journalist in that context they are correctly referred to as "halls" - not lodges - and moreover while I have certainly heard of a MA-sonic lodge - I have been in and attended functions in them many times over the years - but I have to admit I'm not familiar with these MAY-sonic lodges he continually referred to....

To be fair, Lodge (or Temple) is what it says on the outside of the building. Call me an incompetent journalist if you must but if a building calls itself a Lodge, I'll go out on a limb and call it a Lodge.

And now a third masonic hall in East Van has been torched; clearly some unhinged conspiracy lunatic is at work. I know there is yet another Freemasons Want to Dominate the World video is currently circulating which only serves to rile up such people who clearly have issues.

Pretty obviously some anti-FM conspiracy lunatic is on the loose. Hope they find the nut-bag before someone is seriously hurt or killed.

Apparently (s)he is on a one-man/woman mission to defeat the Satan-worshiping FM globalist cabal. Honestly some humans are truly dumber than a sack of hammers. No wonder the aliens refuse to openly make contact with us.....

Holy crap.

I was just thinking the Masons should be all hands on deck rushing to the remaining halls before this nut strikes again.

/\  After the fire at the East Van temple was reported on the news this morning the BC & Yukon FM group on FB called for just that type of response. Blacks. Asians. Strange men publicly following women in broad daylight, completely unconcerned about being filmed. Library patrons in North Vancouver. Masons. Who is next?

Obviously in "normal" times x % of the population struggles with mental and psychological issues. I can only presume the pressures of the pandemic only exacerbate them. Whatever it is they are all apparently coming out of the woodwork now....

I suspect the powers that be don't want to admit to the increase of mental health issues brought on the pandemic.
