Am I crazy to consider a float home? For some reason it intrigues me. I guess, though, being on a ship for weeks or months at a time, the last thing I will want to do is come home to a floating house! hehe.

^You're home will probably not increase in value. You're looking at at least 600 a month in mooring fees. Privacy is pretty much non-existent.

Plus the GVHA doesn't want them there anymore anyway.

What's with the funky metal wall? haha.
Before a bit of a reno, it had polished concrete floors and a few more sort of industrial features. The steel wall is one of the last hold-outs from that era. You can remove it in 20 minutes and patch and paint the drywall behind it. Write that into the sales contract and I'll do it for your before possession, no charge.

Where's Chinatown? I know roughly where it is, but I'm basically what streets border it. Someone just suggested either Cook Village, or Chinatown area as two places to look. Although he lived in Victoria five plus years ago, so things have probably changed since then.

The Chinatown area can be a little scuzzy, particularly at night. If you're not used to walking past groups of homeless people or drug addicts, you may want to look elsewhere.
Last night I was unfortunate enough to witness some street justice in the vicinity and according to folks who manned a bar in the area, that sort of stuff is a regular occurrence.

On another note... Delta, Best Western Inner Harbour, or Hotel Grand Pacific for my trip there next week? They all have comparable ratings on tripadvisor.com

I've stayed at the Delta. Rip-off and grimy. I've seen some rooms at the Grand pacific. It's very nice.
