Cash only -- list of businesses not accepting Interac and credit cards

^Why, if the staff are rounding according to the rules?

Simple thought exercise composed of two questions:
(1) Are prices of products randomly distributed?
(2) Does the number of items an average shopper buys follow any pattern?

Any bias in these things, and you're guaranteed to be off at the end of the day.

One of the new stores at the Market at the Hudson is cash only.  Meanwhile across the hall, the Roast uses an iPad with a credit card reader, which anyone can get, I've got one for my iPhone.  It's not rocket science.

No, that same side but not as far in, maybe the second or third thing on the right as you enter.  It really makes me shake my head.  The big CASH ONLY sign as you approach the counter.  I find it absolutely odd a business would choose to only use the form of payment that is the least popular.

I'm going to guess it's the Indian place then?

You know what kills me?! The title of this post using the wrong word/spelling of INTERAC - *no T* - and the people that pronounce it the same way. I'm a stickler for spelling/proper words!

Da Tandoor restaurant on Johnson St does not accept Interact. . Kind of surprised when I saw the sign at the end of the meal. Thought it would be placed prominently with the hours or operation or on the front door but it is just placed on the front  of the desk.

It might take Major credit cards but I thankfully had cash

Apparently Beacon Drive In only takes credit cards for transactions over $10.  As Mark Brennae on CFAX is telling us this afternoon.

Which is quite silly.  Merchant discount rates (the $ the retailer pays on the transaction) is a % of the sale for credit cards.  

Usually all I carry with me is a credit card.  It sucks encountering the odd retailer with minimum orders for CC transactions.

Apparently Beacon Drive In only takes credit cards for transactions over $10.  As Mark Brennae on CFAX is telling us this afternoon.

Couple of Google Reviews confirm this going a couple months back...which is weird because I can remember paying with plastic last summer for a sub $10 purchase.

At any rate this is a dangerous precedent. Now I'm forced to get the milkshake and poutine. Those jerks!

Bought a couple of chocolate dipped cones there on Friday. Girl put so much of the chocolate on the cone it broke all apart when you bit into it. It must have been an eighth of an inch thick.

Ya, it's odd for sure.  And probably against their merchant account TOS too.

If they were trying to avoid CC fees, wouldn't it make more sense to limit the maximum purchase that can be made by CC? 

Obviously it drives some business owners nuts to see the amount they pay in cc fees. Regardless of their overall income. Some do not see the costs in being a cash business.  Because not matter what the Beacon Drive In operator thinks, there is some very small percantage of people that are passing up his business becasue of the policiy.  There are also people passing him up due to cleanliness issues, perceived value etc. etc.  You have to balance it all.  But when you are not sure, it's always good to look at companies that are smarter than you and see what they do.  Does Walmart or McDonald's take cash, debit and Visa?  OK, probably a good idea.
