Value Village Floor is Collapsing

I first noticed it about 5 days ago.
This evening I was in there and it is far worse than yesterday.
The amazing thing is that the store is still open and full of customers.
It appears that a tenant operating a night club in the basement removed one or more supporting posts to make there dance floor larger.
the part of the floor in Value Village that is sagging appears to be an area of about 200- 300 sq ft
I find it odd that the public is allowed into the building. I went back this evening and they have now cleared all of the merchandise from the area.
This is a major breach of the building structure

If this was happening in a public building it would be closed until fixed.

Nice from the above link Times Colonist story with VV Credit The sagging floor was first noticed by bloggers on the Vibrant Victoria website, who questioned why customers would still be allowed in a store with what could be a potential structural problem.

At 10% that would make it 2000 to 3000 sq ft total on that floor My guess is that it is maybe 5%.
Assuming the 200-300 sq/ft number is right then i'd say it's even less. More like 2%. Value Village is pretty big. I'd say the Starvation Army Thrift store at Johnson and Wharf is probably 2000-3000 sq./ft and Value Village is much bigger than that. What kind of moron takes out a supporting beam and doesn't think there will be consequences?

That is a pet peave of mine when anyone refers to postings on a forum as blogging, or a forum as a blog.

There seems to be disagreement on whether a support column was removed.

Was anyone aware that the TC reads theses forums?
I went back in there today and there is another section that seems to be sagging now.
Someone has taken a Core sample from the floor and it looks like it IS a a concrete floor with a thickness of about 8 inches.
Interesting that one person says a support was removed and the TC story says nothing was done.
I remember in the 1980's after Kelly Douglas had moved to Viewfield Rd in Esquimalt ( the current Superstore Warehouse) the Value Village building operated as a large indoor market with kiosks selling things such as Fresh Produce, nick knacks, antiques and some Fast food stalls.

Believe me, every local media person reads this forum.

I believe there is a public market thread here that also contains a link to a Ross Crockford article that refers to that market.

hi all. jason guille here, owner of Sunset Room. we havent made any structural changes in the 5 years we have had the space - im not sure where that rumour began. people sure get angry fast dont they? we had some city engineers come through when the VV floor sagged, as i understand it there is a crawlspace above our concrete ceiling (their sub-floor) which caved in for some reason. good news is that doesnt seem like a major structural issue and i imagine will be patched up upstairs lickety split meanwhile, sunset will be open and dance will ensue. i hope our clients' magnetic personalities didnt have anything to do with this...

I think I am ready for the looney bin now.
Has this article been rewritten to eliminate reference to Vibrant Victoria?
I could have sworn it was mentioned yesterday.
