I wonder if there are plans to re-install the canon once the Laurel Point remediation project is complete. Does anyone know if the work being done will encompass the places of interest part of the David Foster walkway, and present a finished section of the walkway?

Don't be so sure.

For Pete's sake!  Are you still on about that silly Laurel Point thing.  This thread was meant to be about the nine o'clock gun.  Further to my post of  about 25 November 2018, my parents told me it was a curfew warning and all little boys and girls must be off the street by then or a policeman would take them home in the bun wagon.  Please can we get back to THAT gun and forget about Laurel Point?!

Pending move to permanent daylight savings raises safety issues around Greater Victoria schools

If pending move finalized, sun would not rise until after 9 a.m.

I'm at a complete loss to understand the benefits of year-round DST.

It seems odd to me too.  I think some large portion of the population believes it gives us more light each day.

Or that there's a benefit to an extra 15 minutes of daylight after work in December.

One way to work it better would be to make each daylight hour shorter.  Say 45 minutes.  Then make the night hours longer, about 90 minutes each.  Now you'd have more hours of daylight.

I think you'd need to change your analog clocks hourly.

Throw in a four day work week and now we have a serious dilemma on our hands.

Maybe change Thursday to Friday and skip a day, making weeks six days? That way we can shorten winter by two months.

Know it all.

Messing with DST would be a disaster for construction. Difficult to work in the dark at 8:00 AM.

Why are politicians so hell bent on messing with things that do not present a problem but will ultimately annoy people?

Might be annoying for a cannon to go off at 8 am too.

It just makes sense to stay at the same time all year. Changing our clocks and messing with our internal circadian rhythm twice a year is pathological.

This is a reasonable argument.

As to the construction and other items, they can change their working hours, no?

It would be a bit silly though if we started changing work or school times twice a year.

We could stop the coddling and just let people go to work and school in the dark. It will be normal in a week and by the of the week it will already be getting lighter out again.

Or when we switch back to Standard time in November we just leave it there permanently.

Although, I have been switching back-and-forth for 55 years and my circadian rhythms have managed to survive.

I like the light in the afternoon more than in the morning, dark mornings just let me sleep in longer.

You'll be able to sleep-in REALLY late in December/January if we move to year-round Daylight time. :squint:
