I almost forgot to mention this. It appears some sort of "primer" coat of white paint has been applied to the east side of The Wave, presumably in preparation for the painting of the former mosaic.

That just makes it easier to apply the green spandrel
Green spandrel would be more attractive than the horribly distorted "public amenity" that previously graced this building.

The mural is being reapplied as we speak!
It appears to be an identical version to the one that failed--same coloured tiles, same stretched perspective, same miscalculated proportion.
I'm going off to die now.

What? I thought it was to be painted rather than tiled. Aesthetics notwithstanding, why repeat the same mistake in the medium/method of application?

I know we've been over this about 10,000 times over the years, but why were the proportions distorted in the first place and why would anyone want the proportions to be distorted in the repaired version?

I accept the stretched perspective. That's a valid aesthetic decision. But what I don't understand is the blank strip to the right and below.
I honestly feel it must have been a calculation error. The initial design had the wave covering the entire area and they divided the space into a 12" grid but then discovered those tiles only come in 10".

They should have done a Space Invaders mural, that way it would be loved, not hated.

I accept the stretched perspective. That's a valid aesthetic decision.
Valid, maybe. Respectful of the original artwork? Doubtful. If the distortion was meant to evoke some sort of irony, the message has been lost on me.
I remain hopeful the next piece of classic** art to grace a prominent civic location will look something like this:
I think there may still be time to incorporate this on the full north facade of Hudson Place-2. Is there a better way to greet new arrivals to downtown Victoria*?
*at least this is humourous and certainly makes sense locally
** Renaissance

Are they doing it slightly off-centre to the left again!?

So some guy runs into your '92 Sunfire and you're like, OK, whatever, the paint was looking crappy, I'll get a new paint job out of it.
Repair place: "No problem, sir. We will precisely replicate the faded paint and chipped clear coat just like before:
You: "Wait, why don't you actually just repaint it and make it look better?
Repair place: "I don't follow..."

From earlier in this thread:
June 6, 2014
If they're somehow forced to replace it, should they also be required to get the proportions right the second time around? It would absolutely blow my mind if they end up replacing it with a brand new mosaic (or painting) of the same stretched image.
June 7, 2014
So would it be satisfactory to replace the stretched mosaic with a smaller mosaic that has corrected proportions? This really shouldn't be a difficult question to answer.
If the answer is "no, the replacement mosaic must be an exact duplicate of the original, including all errors and flaws" (except for the errors and flaws that caused the tiles to fall off, of course), then I think I give up.

I noticed it too, I genuinely wondered if it was just the penthouse suite owner(s) having some fun.

It is almost complete. It is paint, not tile.
