Natural gas might just best be used to fire an electricity plant near the gas field.

I dunno.

It’s complicated.

But I think individual rooftop solar probably costs lots in “other” costs like the the inverters and switches and stuff. That wears out and/or needs way too much service than is right.

Let’s hope this guy’s idea for “solar power battery storage” (ie a rain barrel on his roof) doesn’t catch on. It’s pretty smart, but this is taking it too far. https://youtu.be/CMR...H79-EO5Lmwmau_h

That said, maybe we should be using some of the electricity from those Sooke solar farms to pump water up to the jordan river reservoir dam.

If it's decentralized when the inverter fails it doesn't take out a village. It also doesn't cost $10,000,000 and six months to fix.

Ya maybe. It’s complicated.

And it’s quite complicated what we have built so far.

It’ll probably all work out. It always does.

Given time yes. But I am only here for a short time so let's take that attitude and NOT mow down 235 hectares between Sandcut and Jacob creeks, east of Jordan River. Let's install the solar on the rooftops as needed.

What percentage of BC forests would that be?

Less than 1% of what we use for urban living today, nearby. And less than 0.1% of the BC forest cover. It’s insignificant.

Show your work.

It’s so close to nothing, the amount of forests deleted, it’s amazing.

Solar is only helpful when the sun is shining. I think if you installed solar on the roof of every building in BC, you’d still have an issue with meeting energy consumption demand at night. Particularly in the winter when everyone’s heat pump is working hard through the long dark nights, and wood stoves and gas furnaces have been banned.

We all know solar only produces in the day.

But show your work.

Alberta gets lots of energy from solar. They have no hydro to tap. Works for them.

That guy needs to see a doctor.

Looking at his followers and views, he might be the smart one here… apparently there’s good money in YouTube content.

Edit: 4.6M views on one video is apparently worth about $2500/month.

It is 235 hectares of forest in my neighborhood. It is also next to SandCut beach which is a treasure.

Solar farms can have a deep environmental impact on habitat degradation and can send ripples throughout entire ecosystems. Also land degradation. How will that affect the surrounding area? Leave it as a working forest and move on. As you say, everything will work out.

It would just take one small wildfire next to a solar farm, and merely the suggestion that the solar panels caused it, to turn Islanders against solar Farms forever…

That’s mildly interesting. Not sure if practical.
