Not sure why it is sad, have you been to it?
The failure of a poorly thought out 28 slip, 35 million dollar marina, taking 2 years to build and running nearly 50% over budget, can’t be blamed on the pandemic.
No shore side amenities, no loading area, no vehicle access. That isolated little corner of Victoria’s inner harbor is not the Mediterranean.
Know it all.

Superyacht owners aren't like you and I, and expect things like night clubs, high end boutiques, multiple eateries, and perhaps a Ferrari dealership right at dockside.
I'm kidding ... but the gist of my list is true, and is what he's talking about.

There were some opponents of the marina who were vehemently against it. It seems the article attracted those who were likely out on the Songhees walkway with "Save Our Harbour" signs. They have another forum to spew their hatred for the project.

Those folks posting are boat owners from near and far ... its very doubtful any of them protested the creation of a new marina, but highly likely that they're experienced boat owners who are simply highlighting what a boat owner might consider pointing out as a questionable choice in either marina design, or choice of marina location.

^ I agree. I can certainly see guests wanting to spend a night or two in Victoria but what do we have which is going entice anyone to want to stay here for an extended period of time?

No shortage of people that think they could do better - always will be. We work with some of the best people in the large yacht business, who are supportive and continue to assure us that we are on the right course. Time will tell of course.

Of course.
It was just a link to a forum that was talking about the same thing as this thread, but from a different point of view (that of a large boat owner).
And of course those comments are obviously on an internet forum ... which are very often nothing more than a wasteland of uninformed and highly biased opinions, all laden with personal agendas.

I have a view of the marina, and it has been quite full for a while now. Now that the owners have it out of receivership, they will be happy with this year's business I reckon.

Mike, how many vessels do you see today? It's great to see so much activity.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner Mike. I can't see the entire marina...only about half at the Boom and Batten side. There are about 7 there today, and I'm pretty sure there are as many towards the west.

At the marina, I love the scale of those lower-rise condos: definitely very fitting for a heritage city like Victoria!

Did this marina ever sell?
It was listed for sale two years ago: https://victoria.cit...isted-for-sale/ - that’s March of 2021
In November of 2021 it went into receivership.
In May of 2022, it was “back in the hands” of its owners.
You have the sequence correct.
-Alberta-based owners prior to January 2015
-Vancouver-based owners after January 2015
-Receivership between December 13, 2021 and May 16, 2022.
-The same Vancouver-based owners after May 16, 2022 (and ongoing).
-The marina has always "been for sale", in so much as most developers are willing to sell for the right price.
Hope that helps.
