It sounds like Randy Quaid and his wife are considering coming to the Island or possibly the Gulf Islands to evade the Star Whackers.

Thank god the two of them took action because i'm sure they were the next ones to get whacked.

Bob McDonald of Quirks and Quirks and other broadcasts has moved from TO to Fairfield. He now hosts the CBC Radio science program from his basement.

And Pam Anderson and Jamie Kennedy were here too this weekend for the same thing. Your tax dollars are paying for these extra scenes to be shot, BTW. Telefilm Canada is picking up the tab now for the new editing.

"Jim Unger, the man behind the cartoon Herman, is being remembered as an artist, trailblazer and offbeat comic. Unger, 75, had been feeling unwell for some time and died in his sleep at his Saanich home, his friend Adrian Raeside said Tuesday."

Seth Rogen was in town the other day. Was he attending the David Foster thing?

It is with great sadness that I must inform you that we have lost one of Victoria's most loved TV personalities. Bob Aylward was an icon in my life....as he was instrumental in my early growth.

His son "allseeingeye" is a valuable member of this forum.

Please join me in wishing his family all of the peace and kindness that is needed in a time of remembrance of such a great human being.

Thanks Rick

Our hearts are with you and your family. I emailed David Jensen this morning and suggested that he should get away from London and come home and pay his respects.

Thanks again Tim/Sparky for your kind words and amusing anecdotes at the Celebration of Life on Monday. It was appreciated and I have also passed along your message from last night to the immediate and extended family. It all went like clockwork; we were overwhelmed by the crowd and the attention. Also many thanks to my old friend RJag who is also a key member of VV and supported me both before and during the service. It was gratifying to see so many of dad's old media colleagues in attendance including Ron Andrews and Art Cooper (both ex-CJVI), Barry Bowman (CFAX), Barry Casson (ex-CHEK) Daphne Goode from (Cablevision/Shaw Cable), Jim Hume and Jim Gibson (both T-C) as well as truckload of ex-CHEK/BCTV technical staff from his old show. The final icing was of course the VicPD police escort to the Royal Oak burial park, which as a cop's son would have thrilled him above all.

This is a stretch but bear with me, it's a slow news day.

Last week was the 165th birthday of Dracula author Bram Stoker, whose brother Dr. Richard Stoker built and lived in a Cowichan-area log house now owned by the University of Victoria.

A bit off topic, but Doug Christie has passed away from cancer at age 66. He was probably one of the most controversial people of our times. His Western Canada Concept party is still a registered BC political party.

He specialized in defending some accused in free speech trials. I'm not sure why he was all that controversial for just doing his job. Somebody was going to defend those accused. But really, it was a tiny part of his practice.

If you go to the Province article and read the comments that have been posted you will see that there are some people that took exception to his work. I agree with you, he was just doing his job. Maybe I should have said that he seemed to enjoy the controversial cases.

His Western Canada Concept party was somewhat controversial in as much as it was deemed to be a separatist party.

I used to see him on a regular basis at the Commonwealth Pool. He practiced a healthy lifestyle. It is a shame that his prostate didn't get the message.

^He defended some really nasty people, that's why he was "controversial". Other lawyers didn't want their reputation tarnished. Christie put risk aside and helped the ones no one else would. Isn't that the definition of a hero? I admit I'm still conflicted and I've been reading about him for 20 years.
