Caffe Artigiano, a Vancouver coffee chain, is opening its first Victoria chain in the lobby of the Bedford Regency Hotel at Government and View.

Because there's a shortage of coffee spots in that neighbourhood?

I hope it's a classier place than Murchies. That place has lately fallen to new lows which is unfortunate considering that it used to have excellent service and excellent food.

The Coffee Crew Blog posted on this in October, with lots of interesting background links & info on the company (which was bought by Willie Mounzer of Earls...).

Well, one could say that the neighbourhood most-served by coffee spots is Cook Street Village, with Serious Coffee, Starbucks, Mocha House, Cafe Fantastico, and Discovery Coffee purveyor Bubby Rose all within 2 blocks of each other.

Why would it ever open in the slummy Bedford?

Is the Bedford slummy?

Anyways, it's the groundfloor retail space that must be attractive to them and not necessarily the hotel above.

The Bedford seems to get more than its share of negative reviews. All the more reason to be excited about new things happening on the ground floor, don't you think?
