Anyone been here yet? Read the menu in the window and it looked great.

This is in the old Herald Street Cafe location.

Fabulous. 9 of us went 2 weeks ago for dinner -- mmmms all around the table, everyone trying their neighbour's entree, apps and desserts.

great service.

The buffalo short rib is amazing.
Don't forget to try a cocktail. Solomon is well versed in old school prohibition cocktails and makes his own juices and serves the Uk Fentimans mixes. Love it!

Can someone please correct the thread's name? It's Solomon, like the king. Not Solo-man. kgbthx! :)

(PS: sorry, but stuff like that cuts my eyeballs - I'm weird that way.)

I've recently discovered they have the largest beer selection in town. Not to mention it's all good beer, no megaswill, making the large variety even more impressive. Draught beer is $5 there.

Don't you mean Suleiman, like the King? :D

PS. it's OK by me to be weird that way, I'm a recidivist from a pedant colony.

It seems to be that way now - definitely tapas, which we weren't in the mood for the other night when we dropped in thinking they still had entrees. Anyone try the tapas yet? Are they any good?

I have a friend who loves this place as a source of cocktails, so next time I'm in the mood for that sort of evening I'll head back.

I still definitely want to try it out but you have GOT to read about one user's experience of late:

I don't find that surprising given what they charged for food there.

The 10-ish dollar Gin-and-Tonic selection was a bit much, too.

Lovely and tasty, mind you, but a bit much.

Sadly, it's true.

I'm pretty sure it's not permanent... Their webpage states it's closed from January 18-31 http://solomons.ca/S...ia_BC/Home.html

This says it's temporary, can anyone clarify? The phone number just rings off the hook.

Restaurants are most likely to close for a few weeks in January because of the post holiday lull in revenues. Blue Fox on Fort is also closed for a staff "vacation."

Know it all.

I just looked through the window, it looks to be just temporary, all the liquor is still on the back bar.

"Kitchen renovation" is often code-words for "we are closing this week for a vacation and it's a good time due to lack of business, but we can't say that, so we'll say it's a kitchen renovation, then when you come back you can't see if we really did any renovations or not because you can't see the kitchen".

If you serve liquor to a minor once, you get a warning. If you do it twice, you get another $10,000 warning. If you do it three times, they pull your license and you are closed, for "kitchen renovations" of course.

Don't expect to see Solomon's back anytime soon. I hear a local chef is looking at putting it back together.

At least, that's the word on the street.

But it's true, many restaurants take advantage of the January lull to close for a week or two and give everybody a break/do whatever maintenance is required/save labour.
