We just resubscired to cable after many many years without! Awful stuff, but try getting the FIL to grok the apps isn’t working so we bit the bullet.

I still can't give up traditional cable.

Cable TV is one of those things that you won't miss at all when you cut it. And if you go any length of time without it but then it re-enters your life again at some later moment, it will seem to have the same complexion as a recurring toenail fungus.

I'm still a young pup compared to most of you old farts but even so in my adult life I've probably enjoyed more than 20 cable-free years and in my childhood there were some cable-free years there as well. I can personally offer the guarantee: cable TV is not one of the necessities of life.

I enjoy my cable TV more than most of what is offered from the streaming services.

Here's a tip just in case you cut your cable and then find yourself going through withdrawal: Mike K. has an 80-inch television and his living room has large windows.

I haven't added it up (not motivated to know...) but I suspect I pay more for various streaming services than I ever did for cable... everyone in the house has their favs, and then you find a movie is only on crave, so you get the trial.. .you forget to cancel it.. etc.

Lots of folks cycle through these services paying for one or two until you’ve had your fill then cancel and move onto the next one. I’m not organized enough for that.

I share my NETFLIX account with someone who otherwise couldn't manage the cost on their own (and yes, I pay for the additional user). If it weren't for that I would probably ditch it.

Depends on the subject. In general my information sources/choices look like this -

Victoria/Local - the T-C for a quick flip through; Daily Hive; occasionally the Tyee for a different perspective

BC News - Vancouver Sun, Tyee

Foreign Policy/Foreign Affairs - Foreign Affairs Magazine, Foreign Policy Magazine, International Institute for Strategic Studies, International Affairs/RAND

Military/Strategic- Janes, Military Times

Canadian economic news - BNN Bloomberg, Financial Post

Sports - ESPN, Sporting News, Sky Sports, the Athletic

We have a few streaming services but like many others I can't keep track of which costs how much - we definitely have Netflix and Crave for example; but I'm too set in my ways to cut cable which probably won't change.

I can’t stand the commercials on cable. They’re just brutal.

Of course now you have to pay extra to get commercial-free streaming services.

Best option known to man. Life’s too short to be staring into commercials.

My DVR lets me skip commercials on cable TV.

I don’t even have to ask a DVR for permission. I just don’t see them.

Did I? Perhaps it was on purpose :). Actually true I did. Guilty as charged.

It's the ads on VV that I detest the most.  ;)

Do you mean charge me NOT to see them? Otherwise I'll take the free version with no ads.

You’ll be forced to watch 3 minutes of ads with every 15 minutes of browsing VV then.
