$500/night for Robin Hood Inn!?!? Holy smokes...

That's nuts, before settling on Mexico for our trip next month I was finding properties on or 5 mins away from world class beaches in Turks and Caicos for less than that.

I paid considerably less for hotels in the heart of Rome and along the Grand Canal in Venice last year.

When did Robin Hood go upmarket? Really love the chateau Victoria. Seems like the only place we stay in Victoria now.

I think Paris (except for the Olympic time period) and London are cheaper! Who can afford to come here? I'd rather go to Europe, lol.

We also don’t even have any truly high-end hotels in this city. The quality per dollar is so bad

Mairet said new provincial rules coming into effect in May limiting short-term rentals like Airbnb to principal residences and a secondary suite will further decrease accommodation in the city.

“Because of that, we feel that this is a good time for us to actually try to get this done,” he said.

The plan would require a rezoning of the property at 603 Pandora Ave. and an amendment to the Official Community Plan to allow for higher density. An application is expected to be submitted to the city following a land-use committee consultation meeting on Feb. 20.

Paul Nursey, president and CEO of Destination Greater Victoria, wouldn’t comment on the specific proposal, but said the city is short on hotel rooms.

There it is. I said as much on the radio, that the redesign and 33% push with the unit count was in direct response to AirBnB’s curtailment.

A hotel has been planned for the site (whale wall at the foot of Yates) since 2020, but the most recent proposal by Salient Group in November involves preserving the existing five-storey heritage building and adding two additional floors on top to create a total of 52 units for mixed residential and hotel use.

Commercial space that would be suitable for a restaurant or another food establishment would be retained on the ground floor.

Designed by John Teague, Yates Block was first erected in 1882 and has undergone multiple renovations and additions since then. At different points in the building’s history, it has been a dry goods and grocery store, a ship chandler and a restaurant.

The building — with three storeys above street grade and two below sloping to the harbour — has been largely vacant since its last tenant, Pacific Design Academy, relocated to Bastion Square in 2022.

Soccer fans planning to visit Vancouver for the 2026 FIFA World Cup may struggle to find hotel accommodation for the event, according to the city's tourism board.

A 2023 study by Destination Vancouver has found that demand for hotel rooms is expected to exceed supply in the summer months of 2026, despite the province saying more than a thousand hotel rooms are being developed in the city.

A short while ago we were claiming vacation rentals were killing the hotel business, but now we're claiming there's a desperate shortage of hotel rooms.

'We' were saying the opposite from the start. That banning STRs wasn't going to fix anything. That the province buying up all the cheap motels wasn't going to help with homelessness and would make the hotel industry even more strained. The govment though keeps looking for easy (but expensive) solutions to the problems.

Spent a nice weekend in Vancouver with some friends and family, decided to roll the dice with a Hotwire hotel and ended up at the Douglas in the Parq complex. Absolutely gorgeous, one of the nicest hotels I’ve ever stayed at. Did not disappoint in any way. We enjoyed some room service that was a 12 out of 10, second only to the wake up basket at the Fogo Inn.

Despite spending time in the area for various events, somehow I’ve never stepped foot into this place. Really great food service outlets, fun and busy casino, and a gorgeous and very functional space and doesn’t get much closer to the action. It butts up right against B.C. Place. Perfect area for a city weekend!

$380k per bedroom.

If what I’m hearing is true, and Salt Spring is next for the speculation tax, then we will start to see more vacation and airbnb properties hitting the market. The Gulf Islands are going to be a huge chunk of revenue.
