That's provincial, and its $500 pp, not $1000 (thats per family).

IIRC, its a cheque (now*), and a permanent tax related change equivalent to that going forward.

Federally, the $250 cheque is probably dead permanently, not because of the 62b deficit but because the votes required to get it through require even more spending to extend the cheque to practically everyone...

Eby's 'now' falls in the same SMDH category as Trudeau's 'budgets will balance themselves'...

Typically around this time we get notices from suppliers about the annual (at least) dairy increase from the dairy commission, so imagine my surprise to see this is actually going down this year! Increases are typically 2-5% based on fat content and other metrics, but the decrease this year is a whopping 0.0237% or less than a penny per litre of raw milk.

Look at all this affordability!

$27/square feet

A great opportunity to sub-lease a small format retail unit with gross rent of only $2850 per month in the rapidly developing Harris Green District. This unit is built out as a Butcher shop but could easily accommodate retail or professional office uses. The unit benefits from great street frontage onto Johnson St and has large floor-to-ceiling retail windows which allows for great natural light. The unit has a wide-open retail area in the front and the back section is demised which has a walk-in cooler, kitchenette, commercial sink and large handicap-accessible washroom. With the Harris Green area seeing densification on nearly every corner, this retail unit will continue to benefit from increased vehicular and pedestrian traffic for years to come.

A decades-old shop that became a staple for cheese connoisseurs in Oak Bay and beyond is set to close after 22 “unforgettable years,” according to the owner.

“With full hearts, we prepare to say goodbye,” wrote Carmen Lassooij, owner of Charelli’s Cheese Shop and Delicatessen, in a post on Instagram Saturday.

Charelli’s final day in operation will be May 24, 2025.

Lassooij said the announcement came “with sadness.”

She took to social media to reflect on her time as a cheese shop owner in Oak Bay and to thank customers and staff for their support through the years.

“From the very beginning, you have welcomed us into your lives,” said Lassooij in a message to customers. Many commented they were saddened by the news.

Sooke's Western Foods at Evergreen Centre has been acquired by Pattison's Associated Grocers.

There's also a major announcement coming today regarding downtown Victoria's third grocery store. Stay tuned.

Full-service urban-format grocery store will replace the public market.

More from developer Townline:

When Townline opened Victoria Public Market 12 years ago, we were excited to welcome residents, neighbours and tourists to what would become a special place for many. Unfortunately, like countless businesses, our tenants felt the impacts of the global pandemic.

Today, only seven spaces are occupied, while 11 sit empty.

Given these realities – and after careful deliberation – we have decided to repurpose the space. To do so, we have informed our current market tenants that we will soon cease operations of Victoria Public Market. Tenants have up to six months to transition out of their current spaces.

In keeping with Townline’s commitment to our residents and neighbours to build walkable communities with important retail amenities and daily conveniences, it is important that we use the space in a way that best serves Hudson District and beyond. To this end, we are happy to announce that a full-service, urban-format Canadian grocery store will open in the space early next year.

In addition to being an essential service, the grocer will create jobs and provide tremendous value to the community. We look forward to sharing more details in due time, including the name of the grocer.

Looking ahead, there may be some space available at Hudson District, which we will explore offering to current tenants and other retailers in the future.

Know it all.

No not yet, but consider that there will now be 2 grocery stores right next to each other (Chard has one planned on the former White Spot site).

I would have expected something a little higher end or even a Red Barn / Root Cellar type of store.
