Someone needs to count the current floors. We were wondering today if the crane will get another extension.

Someone needs to count the current floors...
I think the deck of the 15th floor has either been prepared for concrete or it has already been poured.

Concur - I count fourteen full floors already, with the fifteenth underway

I still can't get over how, without the architectural crown, HP1 and HP2 are the same height due to being built on a hill....

I don't think I've ever seen a pic from that building before.

Jack Davis could use a slick recladding. It would seem like a new building.

Also worth noting is new rebar columns are always two floors in height. So the tops of the rebar represents two more floors of height.

I have been taking a picture from out lunch room almost daily since they were about street level.
I am going to ry and get a time lapse together once it is done, or close to.

Back in the day that building had sliding doors on the units. Does it still have?
Edit: that doesn't read so well. I mean to say, the units in that building had sliding doors on them.

So at present the top of the rebar represents the base of what will be the 17th floor.

That would seem to be correct. So at 16 or 17 stories you can barely see the thing from many directions. Does anybody still want to argue if a taller building was really warranted on this site? The heritage restoration & conversion of the old HBC building was a huge project unto itself. The demolition of the parkade was no small deal. And now we're getting the visual message re: just how large the surrounding buildings are (the HBC itself, the Jack Davis, the Hudson Mews and the office buildings on Fisgard, etc.).

Are you revealing your true colours, you Vancouver-loving turncoat?
Beware, Victoria, We're Getting a Vancouver Look
Times-Colonist
February 1994
BCBC's first major new building, the Jack Davis building, opposite Memorial Arena on Blanshard, is unmistakably "Vancouver."
So Victorians will criticize the thing when new but defend it when aastra suggests a clean-up.
