Private insurance is readily available if you want a nest egg to top up your salary to or over 100%.

I’m not sure doctors “lie” but some are more willing to endorse compensation. The other day I was looking at BC welfare statistics. Somehow we have 3x the number of “disabled” claimants than we had in 1990.

5x the number.

As seen in Figure 1 and in Petit and Tedds (2020), the reforms over our time period converted the B.C. IA system into a majority disability system. Disability Assistance moved from making up 10% of the caseload in 1995 to 71% in 2019. If we add in persons with persistent multiple barriers and those on Temporary Assistance in the excused from work category (which includes people with short-term disabilities and illnesses), people with some form of disability or illness made up 78% of the caseload in 2019.

Speed a likely factor, police said, in an early AM crash that sent a driver to hospital with serious injuries.

Just after 1:00 a.m. this morning, officers conducting patrols in the downtown area came across a single-vehicle collision in the 600-block of Hillside Avenue. It was determined that the vehicle struck a venting pipe and utility control box causing considerable damage to the vehicle and road infrastructure.

The 2600-block of Government Street was closed for several hours while Traffic Analysts and Patrol officers investigated the collision. Due to the large amount of debris, City of Victoria Public Works staff attended to assist with clean up and street sweeps of the roadway and bike lanes. The scene was cleared, and roadways reopened just before 7:00 a.m. this morning.

The driver was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Officers continue to investigate to determine the cause of the collision and speed is believed to be a factor.

This investigation is still in the initial stages. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash-cam footage and has yet to speak with officers is asked to contact the E-Comm Report Desk at (250) 995-7654 extension 1.

Clearly this is why we all need to be driving 40kph and not 50kph...

I think it is a bit of a leap to think that "speed is believed to be a factor." Let's see some proof before we are willing to accept that.

Yes the driver was most likely staring at their speedometer to maintain the 40 which is why the crash looks like this.

There’s likely skid marks, and the driver might have alluded to what happened. There’ll be plenty of surveillance as well. I’d say in this case if they say speed was an issue, it was an issue.

Sorry, I was being sarcastic after looking at the near total destruction of the vehicle which was clearly driving at a ridiculously high speed.

A person can very easily speed through that intersection, but the faster they do it the greater the chance of hitting something in it.

Parents’ Mercedes station wagon I’d guess.

Car crashes onto rocks at Clover Point

May 25, 2024

Dramatic photos show a rolled over car on the rocks in front of Clover Point in Victoria.

Witnesses say the crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

“The older couple said they were on their bikes along the route beside the parking spots, and I think the car was parked there,” said Hallett. “After they moved out of the way from where it was parked, the car just (accelerated) off the cliff.”
