I am not speaking from a position of any knowledge, but merely informed speculation:

The pool has been down all summer, a decision that surprised me. I assumed Saanich would lose more revenue from forgoing all those summer camps than from a shutdown during the school year.

I bet keeping the pool up, running, heated, and properly treated when there is no-one in it is a huge unnecessary expense. Since they'd have to drain it for their annual maintenance window anyhow, probably just as well to drain it and then refill when they're ready to go.

I hope it's soon. The Crystal has been positively overrun all summer as clubs and independent swimmers hunt for lane space.

Edited to add: Alsotoo, I suspect that having the pool empty makes it much more straightforward to install necessary scaffolding. The Crystal was eerie when it was all rigged up for the ceiling tile replacement.

For a few dollars anyone go for a swim and see how poorly the change room designs are, especially the lighting engineering and the architectural spacing. Check out the family change room with the cubicles and corridors. Awful.

This was because the family change room was shoehorned in at the last minute after the building had been designed.

Apparently this is a major renovation which is why the pool has been closed for several months. First major overhaul since the Commonwealth games so we have got our monies worth.
