Police warn Canuck fans to behave, or go dry

Canwest News Service
April 12, 2010

Police are threatening to crack down on rowdy Vancouver Canucks fans, ahead of the team's playoff run.

Vancouver police Const. Lindsey Houghton said officers will close Vancouver liquor stores early like they did during the 2010 Olympics if the crowds get unruly.

"It is a tool for us to use to ensure public safety," Houghton said yesterday.

".. if the crowds get unruly"?? During the Olympics they didn't even wait for the crowds to get unruly. They simply shut them down as a prevention.

As a member of the public, I'm not all that concerned, but I'd be a little pissed if I was a liquor-store owner. I dunno.

I think they will too. This will be an interesting post-season.

Last season was probably the best route to the cup with the Blues, Blackhawks, Red Wings. This season will be significantly tougher if we face the Wings in the second round.

I think we better worry about the Kings first.

So we have 3 upset wins out of 7 series so far. Though the Ottawa win was not much of an upset.

All three Canadian teams have won, two on the road.

Vancouver should have blown out LA last night, but what can you do when a goalie has a hot night?

I am 90% certain whoever wins the West will win the cup. Washington is the best in the east and they won 10 and lost 8 in the season versus the West. Buffalo was the only other team in the East with the same record and the only other team to have a winning record against the West. In the West only Detroit had a record worse than the Caps and Sabres versus the other conference.

Best in the West versus the East was LA with only 4 loses, the Canucks were next with 5 loses.

If San Jose goes down Vancouver is still most likely to face the winner of Phoenix/Detroit in the next round.

With the Canucks it is not so much a bandwagon, it is a bus, you can get on and off when you like.

Not sure why this is such a surprise epecially amongst the media.

All the pre-series blather about LA's supposed playoff 'inexperienced' roster was pure hokum - sure they have some rookies in terms of the playoffs but Doughty, Brown and Kopitar aren't exactly chicken feed - they are world class hockey players. Also check out who on LA has actually played in an NHL playoff semi-final or final with the Stanley Cup on the line, vs. Vancouver and the real story emerges. Smyth, Halpern, O'Donnell, Scuderi, Stoll, and Greene all have that key experience, as opposed to only Samuellson for the Canucks. And at best he was a peripheral role player for Detroit when they won the cup, certainly not a go-to guy.

Besides, a youngster like Doughty just went through the most pressure-packed scenario imaginable for a Canadian hockey player, i.e. winning a gold medal in an Olympic hockey tournament on home ice. Considering the pressure and national expectations there vs those of maybe a few thousand people in LA re: whatever the Kings may accomplish, I'm sure to Doughty these playoffs are a walk in the park.

Game 6

Both goaltenders have their knobs bumped, resulting in goals being scored against them.

Nice work Canucks.

I think VHF is going to organize a game night.

I wonder where?

It was so clear that the Canucks would easily defeat LA, we all know they are going all the way! ;-)
