No.

More than 700 terminally ill Californians used the End of Life Option Act to die peacefully in 2021, according to a newly released report by the California Department of Public Health.

https://compassionan...on-act-in-2021/

  • In 2022, there were 13,241 MAID provisions reported in Canada, accounting for 4.1% of all deaths in Canada.
https://www.canada.c...dying-2022.html

It looks like it’s 46,000 up to 2022. So 50,000 sounds low through 2023. It’s likely closer to 60,000.

They're saying there are only three open clinics in Greater Victoria?

Baby delivered in couple's vehicle in View Royal pub's parking lot

The couple was believed to be en route to the hospital when the birth started to happen a little too soon

Mother and child were transferred to the ambulance and taken to the hospital right after, Andersen said.

A lot of assumptions here.  Who says the person giving birth was a female?

Who says it was a couple?  Could have just been one person driving a birthing person to hospital.  Or the birthing person driving themselves there, with a passenger.

Finally, why is one persons private medical condition front page news?

What has become of our health care system?  It is disgraceful that people who have broken bones and are requiring surgery are waiting over a week for the surgery.  I know of 2 people that is happening to, one had the surgery on the 8th day and the other one is still waiting!  We have no money for health care but lets give free drugs to addicts!!!!!

Because of
lib-ndp.png
Ideology has trumped wellness. There is very little care and a diminished amount of health left in our current system.

BC Conservatives leader John Rustad announced Thursday his party’s intention to hire back thousands of healthcare workers by ending provincial vaccine mandates if elected in October.

Speaking to the press Thursday morning, Rustad laid out a comprehensive healthcare “overhaul” that he claims would put patient needs first.

The Conservatives’ platform includes plans to expand care through privatization, crack down on drug use in medical facilities, and prevent staffing shortages by revoking COVID-19 vaccination mandates for healthcare workers.

Earlier this month, nurses and leaders spoke out after multiple closures of emergency rooms in northern and Interior B.C. due to staffing shortages, including 23 days of closures over 18 months in the City of Merritt.

Rustad says his plans will address closures across the province by reinstating healthcare workers “who are currently out-of-work due to personal health care decisions.”

This modern world of ours is such a ridiculous place. Enforcing fundamental standards of conduct & behaviour in medical facilities is now an election promise, rather than routine procedure?

"We're going to restore basic professionalism to professional environments!" (cheers from proponents, jeers from critics)

It's like something out of a dystopian 1980s movie like Robocop or whatever. The radical politician vows to enforce the law and prosecute criminal behaviour.

Also, let the record show that in July of 2024 we're now saying extreme staffing shortages were maybe sorta possibly aggravated by boatloads of terminations and forced retirements after all. Or maybe not, depending on your voting preferences. But otherwise, welcome back!

I am so disgusted with our health care system at this time!!!!  The person I know who has a shattered bone is still waiting for surgery after 12 days!!  They keep saying that he is in the cue!  You can bet that if it were eby's family member they would have had the surgery right away!

My family member is finally in surgery, 15 days after shattering a bone, after 15 days of being in terrible pain on morphine.  And they wonder how people can become addicted to opiods?

I am becoming more and more convinced the goal of those in charge is to get as many people as possible addicted to opioids.

I went to Alberta for knee replacement surgery last month. All private, from first phone call to surgery - 5 weeks.

Great service with my surgeon doing three knees a day, they are very competent and skilled.

Surgery at 2:30pm, out of the clinic at 10:30 the next morning.

I recommend this to anyone needing surgery.

The fact that my surgeon here suggested I go to Alberta should tell you something.

Since your MLA or MP would never have to wait 15 days for treatment of one of their family members or staffers it is hard for them to emphasize with you and act to actually change anything.

VGH was rebuilt in 1983 when the population of the region was 220K. By 2035 the population will be at least 450K. We talk a lot about the lack of housing when demand far exceeds supply yet we have even lower growth in medical staff and facility supply.

I am happy to say that my relative had  surgery yesterday afternoon for the shattered bone and is home, of course now on opiods for the 16th day,and still in terrible pain.  6-8 weeks with no weight on leg then a slow rehab and months of physio.  Years ago they would have been kept in the hospital for at least a day or 2 but was released last night, same day as surgery.  Good thing there are parents to give care.  Disgraceful what has happened to our health care system!

I wonder what Michael Moore would think of this healthcare system now. He fooled an entire generation of Americans into believing that we have a superior, free healthcare system.

...Michael Moore... fooled an entire generation of Americans into believing that we have a superior, free healthcare system.

Even worse, he fooled a lot of Canadians, especially those who might have otherwise voted for someone/something that could actually improve our system, rather than spend money to enforce everything that is wrong with it.

I had a close relative a couple of years back develop a serious heart condition quite suddenly. Ended up at Nelson hospital via ambulance, transferred to Kelowna for successful treatment and discharged. Only the clothes he wore to the Nelson hospital, no shoes, no winter jacket. Discharged in Kelowna, no one there he knew, in the middle of winter. Just wild.
