Offices were perfectly safe places for centuries until they suddenly became extremely dangerous places, but now they're perfectly safe places again (until they suddenly become extremely dangerous places again).

The gaslighting is just off the charts. If you didn't believe the danger was real then you were getting vilified. But now if you do believe the danger is real then you're also getting vilified.

The only good citizen is the one who accepts whatever he's told on any given day, without ever comparing it against observable/measurable reality, and without ever recalling what he was told the previous day (because what he was told yesterday will often contradict what he's being told today).

Disagree about what? A worker is allowed to disagree when you assure him it's safe, because for two years you insisted it was not safe, but after disagreeing he should nevertheless come in anyway because a good worker must be willing to commit? (except, of course, during those periods when a good worker should not commit, because it would be crazy dangerous to commit?)

Remember that whole thing about how being irrationally fearful helped to protect other people? Being fearful was the same as being unselfish? I guess it doesn't work that way anymore? Now we're saying being fearful is the same as being selfish? Until tomorrow when we say being fearful is being unselfish again?

Where the heck did those nutbar conspiracy theorists ever dig up that nonsense? Affordable what? Climate what?

Now if you'll excuse me, some unmarked police vehicles just arrived at my door. Not sure what that's about..

Top notch!

The pop-up Zellers at the Bay Centre is underwhelming.

Perhaps the free publicity was worth it.

Todays Square payment outage is really messing with a lot of small businesses. I see one eatery in Victoria is just straight up closing tomorrow because of it.

Why not let retailers take payments offline (no confirmed authorization, but it still electronically enters the reader), up to a certain limit maybe to reduce fraud/abuse, to be debited later from the account when the system is back up?

Kind of like the way credit cards often actually worked until the mid 90's.

Square can do this. It’s what we use when the power is out for an extended period or when the ups systems invariably fail. It then batches out the authorizations when things are back up, or can do it via cellular.

I think the problem was square itself, and not the processing.

Nike abandons Portland store re-opening amid 'theft and safety issues'

Nike had offered to pay off-duty police officers to beef up security at the store

https://www.foxbusin...t-safety-issues

Local ABC affiliate KATU reported in February that the retail giant had offered to pay for off-duty police officers to help beef up security at the store on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard — a proposal that never came to fruition — before announcing that it would ultimately abandon the store that community activists had fought to get opened in the neighborhood.

If I were the realtor, I think I would have cropped the photo to remove the graffiti-covered redevelopment sign and the boarded-up window. They speak volumes about the location of this business.

Probably at least 3-4 years before any relocation will take place here.

Philadelphia police responded to popular retailers like the Apple Store, Lululemon and Footlocker after they were allegedly being ravaged by swarms of looters taking over the City of Brotherly Love Tuesday evening.

At about 8 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to reports of large crowds of juveniles allegedly looting stores in the Center City business corridor of the 9th District.

"In a proactive measure, officers from the 9th District stopped a group of males dressed in black attire and wearing masks at the intersection of 17th and Chestnut Streets," a police spokesperson said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

As of midnight on Wednesday, police confirmed between 15 and 20 people were arrested during the looting and at least two firearms were recovered.
